Hope you get your missing bookmarks issue resolved. I had to stop using Firefox on my MacBookPro. I had used it for years, specifically to view FR, especially during the days when the site got overloaded with replies on live debate, election, or speech threads. It worked fine for the longest time. Never had a problem. Then two upgrades ago, it started acting up, not responding and hanging on loading pages. When I’d try to quit it, it wouldn’t close on its own so I’d have to Force Quit. I tried resetting it, but that didn’t work, and I wrote to Firefox Support, but never got a response. I upgraded to Version 50.0, but it was doing the same thing so I switched to Chrome, which I’m not totally happy with, but it works for the most part. I just updated to 50.0.2, and will try using it again, but at this point I don’t have much hope. It seems Mozilla issues a lot of updates so I don’t know what’s going on with them.

I never trust anything with bookmarks. I save copies of them in various formats and stash them in various places like a squirrel.

Beware—there are FAKE Firefox popup screens screaming for updates. You may have been punked.

For those who use Ghostery.

The updates to Firefox and Palemoon no longer work with Ghostery.

Eich has chosen to build his new browser on the Chromium software that Google uses to build the Chrome browser.

Likely meaning it will be inferior to Firefox (with its many extensions) like Chrome seriously is for power users . Most other browsers do not even enable you to have multiple tab rows, and in Chrome i could not even change the default ctrl+tab switch.

Look at the upper most right-hand side of the address bar. There is an icon of three horizontal lines. Click on it.

A menu box will come up with "History" as a choce. Click on it.

Another menu box will open with Most current-used links. At the bottom is a choice "Show All History." Click on it."

Another menu box will open on the left side of your screen with "Library" on the title bar. The box has two panes. On the left pane is a choice for "Last Seven Days." Click on it.

Then in the right pane, all the links you used in the last seven days will appear.

You can link to any of these entries.

The choice in the left hand pane also allows you to get to any of your Bookmarks.

**********

I used CCleaner within the last seven days, and it removed all the history entries accessible that drop down when you click on the down arrow that is within the address box, but it does not eras the links available from the Firefox procedure above.

Start button> Run then paste this in:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

You will see a folder that has a random file name. Open it and you should see a folder called: bookmarkbackups

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

I got a recent notice to update Firefox using the same language. I noticed the link to the upgrade had a domain name that looked odd, and it wasn’t mozilla.org.

So, you might have been conned into installing malware.

I have auto delete of History.

You tried what I suggested, right? Usually, under "Library," you history and bookmarks are not automatically deleted. IIRC, your problem was recovering your bookmarks. The procedure I outlined gets you to either.
