Enemies are people that could do you emotional, physical or any kind of harm, so you want to keep a real close eye on them to make sure they don’t. It’s “watching your back” There is the fact that the better you know your enemy, the better you can defend yourself against him. Then there is the possibility that the better you understand him and his motivations, the better the chance of resolving the conflict happily for both sides

Good advice . . . BUT NOT ALWAYS, and in this case I think Trump is giving this very poisonous snake the opportunity to to strike him and to harm America. Why would he take such an unnecessary risk when there are others highly qualified for the SoS position? Makes no sense.

Agree completely with “keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Plus, Trump is wisely letting Gingrich and Huckabee put all the legitimate concerns about Romney out there, thus letting Romney know that Trump knows the score. Therefore, Romney will have to think carefully before accepting (if he's offered the spot).

I like Guiliani, but I think the left has something on him — perhaps not something legitimate, but something they can use against him to derail him AFTER he's confirmed. Romney has been vetted time and again. If Trump decides to offer him the Secretary of State position, and Romney accepts, he'll be a loyal and good SofS.
