I really don’t see how term limits is a presidential issue - term limits would have to come from Congress approving an amendment and having that amendment ratified by the states.
Really would be curious if this was proposed and sent to the states for ratification. Frankly, I think the ‘people’ would be on board for limits. I’ve been screaming for term limits for 25 years in addition to the Prez being neutered politically once elected. I am so freaking tired of seeing the Prez going on an official trip to California to award little Johnny his Patrol of the Year award but also attending 3 fund raisers for whichever party. When elected, he president of all, not just one political party.
You beat me to it.
Furthermore congress is NOT going to term-limit themselves, regardless of what Trump says about it.
Presidents say they will push for a balanced budget amendment as part of their campaign promises so why not a term limits amendment?
That was exactly what I was thinking. How does the president control term limits?
The best a president could do is promise to sign a bill that had term limits.
The president is not the king.
I think you're half right. The Constitution does not address term limits at all, so term limits MUST be legal because...
I has been a few months since I last read the Constitution, but I don't remember a Constitutional Amendment being "passed" to limit presidential service to two terms.
Can you tell me where that Constitutional Amendment falls within the Constitution?
Unless of course you want to claim that every "law" passed constitutes and amendment... even those found to be "unconstitutional."
Twilight Zone time again?
Congressional term limits can come from us
the people
by imposing an option of Article 5 that allows the states to go around Congress. There is a movement to use this option to impose term limits.
