Neoprene: It’s the New Lycra
Michelle Obama's Mirror ^ | 4-29-2015 | MOTUS

Why didn’t I think of this? Industrial schtrength neoprene - approved by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors – over industrial strength Spanx.

Neoprene (or polychloroprene) is a family of synthetic rubbers that are produced by polymerization of chloroprene. Neoprene exhibits good chemical stability, and maintains flexibility over a wide temperature range. It is used in a wide variety of applications, such as laptop sleeves, orthopedic braces (wrist, knee, etc.), electrical insulation, liquid and sheet applied elastomeric membranes or flashings, and automotive fan belts.

This schtuff can be used for anything! Everything from fashionable scuba diving wet suits (with matching scuba car coat)

– to Lady M’s fashion forward “sunrise-printed scuba car coat and structured dress made of a light neoprene fabric”  which was a huge hit:

“Obama selected a breathtaking sunrise-printed scuba Monique Lhuillier coat and matching dress that managed to encapsulate both beauty and serenity in one swift motion.” - InStyle

Because you can’t get distinctive folds like this with regular fabrics.

For this kind of dramatic effect you need a lot of rubber:

…and an injection molding machine. Of course Lady M’s neoprene mask is custom made:

And while I’ve heard that neoprene can be uncomfortable:

That’s a small price for fashion. So I’m going on record right here, right now and declaring that neoprene is the new lycra.

Now, on to the Japanese State Dinner. I know you’re wondering what delicacies from Lady M’s Garden of Good and Evil could possibly be on the menu this early in the season:

For the occasion Lady M choose a lovely frock with an embroidered feather-motif and a full tulle skirt by Tadashi Shoji, thus continuing our habit of patronizing the visiting dignitaries.

Oh, and in case you were wondering what beverages were served at dinner: sake of course - Dassai’s 23 for a toast – and a Freeman 2013 “Ryo-fu” Chardonnay. And everyone got a complimentary set to-go in a handy neoprene wine tote.

You said what I was thinking. Isn’t it hot? I don’t know. I was thinking about buying a jacket like that but when I read more about it I thought better of it. No thank you. I also noticed it kept popping up for sale as though it was repeatedly returned.

The dress on Michelle looks pretty, whether it is hot or not. I believe in NOTHING she believes in, but she is a pretty woman and does take good care of herself. She is my same age. I am impressed at how hard she works at staying in good shape. That said, she does have an angry countenance a lot. That’s not so pretty.

I try not to be snarky about her appearance, we all have the looks God gave us. But for the life of me I can’t figure out why she must stand with her feet shoulder width apart in every single picture. Add in bad posture and sleeveless gowns worn well past the age/weight they should be worn and the picture she presents is unbecoming and inappropriate for a woman in her position.

Ya know, if you or I had to live daily with little bathhouse barry bastard boy, I bet our countenance would be sour looking also. Heck, I’m only having to live in the nation he is despoiling and I’m getting sour!

I gave up sleeveless a long time ago. Some 50+ women can pull it off but it still loses something on old arms even if they are fit. Of course I do not mean the out doing yard work clothing. I mean the fancy dinner and out in public supposedly dressed up clothing.

Worse than sleeveless is backless. The starlet crowd loves backless and necklines down to the navel. I suppose the young ones pull it off fine but the older they get the more ridiculous and desperate it looks.

I do think sleeveless looks better on older women who are black — more than white. Nothing worse than pasty white flabby arms.

"...I believe ... she is a pretty woman ..."

You are a generous and Christian person, and we can all benefit from your example, BUT her overt hatred of me and others like me due solely to the color of my skin makes her an ugly person in my book.

Really now: if she could, she would order all us white people into death camps. It's obvious. She has all the hatred of Hitler, but none of his fashion sense.

We always called them “substitute arms” because our substitute teachers were always older and flabbier than the regular teachers.
