Watching a Biased Social Documentary in College for Sexual Abuse Awareness Month
Ulmius

Posted on 04/16/2015 8:41:31 PM PDT by Ulmius

Today, the faculty of my university told my class we had to view a movie in order to observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month, shown by our school's counselor. The film was a social documentary by a guy that was showing his opinions about changing mens' perception of their masculinity. As the film progressed, he started to blame the white male status quo for imposing media messages on vulnerable minds. He even compared John Wayne and Ronald Reagan in the film, portraying their respective appeals as white mens' desire to return to a past accepting of gender and racial discrimination (one they fit in better with), to the extent of saying that Ronald Reagan refused to support civil rights legislation. He also portrayed school shooters as by-products from an indoctrination since childhood into firearms.

The main image that stuck with me was the revulsion of the student body watching the film in general to what he was saying. I could hear all sorts of remarks being made in the crowd, and this gave me hope. When the Q & A session was started after the film ended, most of the comments students made were of how they disagreed with the narrator. While I do not blame my faculty for wanting to spark a debate on an issue (they said in the beginning that the film by no means represented the policy of the school), I believe showing a film about a nonpartisan issue which overtly defamed a former president was in bad taste.

I would appreciate your comments on this incident, and your opinion if you are a man on perception of masculinity.

So they’re using stereotypes about white men to make a point about the evils of stereotypes?

I love it.

I’m sure they’ll tell you that minorities can’t be racist because they have no power.

Of course, if minorities are so powerless, why is your college forcing YOU to sit through something so demeaning?

I warn you: if you point this out to the administration and people showing you this movie, you will be punished for not being tolerant of others.

Of course, I was a trouble maker in college.

If I was watching this film, I’d probably start screaming from the back.

They’d NEVER make black people watch a film about violence in the inner city.

They’re NEVER make Hispanics watch a movie about illegal aliens flooding over our border.

They’d NEVER make Native Americans watch a movie about alcoholism on reservations.

They can only do it to you because no one complains.

Glad the author realized the documentary was socialist groupthink propaganda to try and convert real men into fagbois so the sodomites can have their way with them later. The homo crap is so sickening to normal people. The thought of what they do behind closed doors is truly dusgusting.

Welcome to the brave new world. I had to go through these indoctrination programs back in the 90s. I can only imagine how bad they are now.

“You have a 180% chance of being raped by all the men in this class” was pretty much the standard line. If I were in college today I would not even acknowledge a member of the opposite sex.

If college rap is so common why would ANY women be on campus? Women out number men on most campuses. Why would the risk so much? (I know I know. The stat is bogus and I foolishly accept the premise of liberals.)

They have to attack Reagan. It’s their job. Every shining example that stands as the undeniable antithesis of their position must be attacked, denigrated and made to look like a failure. Reagan was living proof that the entire substructure of leftism was wrong.

Jackson Katz, Phd, is an anti-sexist activist and expert on violence, media and masculinities. An author, filmmaker, educator and social theorist, Katz has worked in gender violence prevention work with diverse groups of men and boys in sports culture and the military, and has pioneered work in critical media literacy.Katz is the creator and co-founder of the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program, which advocates the ‘bystander approach’ to sexual and domestic violence prevention. You’ve also seen him in the award winning documentary “MissRepresentation.”

He makes a couple of valid points, but the rest is claptrap.
