Obama's One-Night-Stay At Brisbane G-20 Cost Taxpayers $1.7 Million

Having secured for himself the most expensive suite of all the leaders at the G-20 meeting in Brisbane, Australia on November 15th, The Daily Mail reports that President Obama's 4,096-room entourage of security guards and assistants cost taxpayers a stunning $1.732 million for the one-night-stand against Putin. "Some folks are being ripped off..."

As The Daily Mail reports,

The president's own room was the most expensive of all the world leaders at the summit as he based himself at the $2,000 (AUS$2,500) a night Marriott Hotel.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott opted for the thrifty $270-a-night Rydges hotel, while Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe required just $170 of public funds for his stay at Novotel.

China's Xi Jinping came closest to Obama's bill, spending $1,450 on his room, followed by UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who handed British taxpayers a $1,070 bill for his stay.

And as The Weekly Standard adds,

The estimated total cost for the three hotels was about $1,732,000; based on an estimated 4,096 room nights, the per room cost comes to $423 per night.

The Justification documents for the three contracts state that the cost is "fair and reasonable based on the pricing available across the city of Brisbane at the time of the visit."

Finally, the G-20 leaders were up-in-arms over Putin moving 3 warships near Australia's waters... how did they feel about Obama invading them with over 4000 Americans?

Everyone out here knows somebody who will, without even thinking, piggishly grab the biggest/best/last of any item for themselves, without fail. Don’tcha just love them?

What on earth does he need 4000 people to handle security and “assistants” for? I bet if we got a real list of who those 4000 people were, there would be a significant number who weren’t actually working, but were just along for the free ride.

This cost estimate seems only to include the cost of the hotels. It doesn’t mention airplanes, helicopters, armored limos, guard cars, or incidentals.

Or roast dog and lobster.

Are they using separate planes this year to transport the dogs and Malaria’s new car to Hawaii for Kwanzaafest ‘14?

How many planes does it take, traveling halfway around the globe, to transport 4000+ people? That figure has to be off. Maybe 400, including SS, WH staff. etc.

I’m dumbfounded. Who knew there were 4,096 hotel rooms in Brisbane?
