Is Martha Coakley About To Blow Another Major Race In Massachusetts?
Talking Points Memo ^ | October 22, 2014 | Sahil Kapur

National Democrats are haunted by memories of Martha Coakley's unforced stumbles and missteps in 2010, which cost them a U.S. Senate seat in one of the country's bluest states.

Four laters later, the Massachusetts attorney general might be about to blow another major contest: The race to succeed Deval Patrick as governor.

With two weeks left to go, a new poll by WBUR, which tracks the race weekly, found Coakley trailing for the first time against Republican Charlie Baker, a former health care CEO who served as secretary of finance and health under Gov. William Weld in the 1990s.

It's still a close contest: Baker has 43 percent while Coakley has 42 percent, well inside the poll's 4.4 percent margin of error.

But the troubling sign for Coakley is that Baker appears to be gaining steam down the stretch after consistently trailing throughout the campaign.

"It's one of several polls which over the last week or so have shown a movement toward Baker," Steve Koczela, the president of MassINC Polling Group, which conducts the polls, said. "Coakley has essentially been treading water while Baker's been climbing."(continued)

Hopefully she keeps being herself and that’s sufficient to make her lose. Won’t forget that she’s the woman who said that Curt Schilling was “a traitor” and that Catholics should be legally prohibited from working at a hospital. Yup, the Red Sox and Catholics are really the perfect groups to attack in Massachusetts....

If the question was being asked about Barney Frank, the answer would be an unequivocal yes.

Similar to the Scott Brown election, people are scared to death. Then it was Obamacare, now it is just Obama all over.

"Coakley has essentially been treading water while Baker's been climbing."

Not to mention mixing metaphors...

Yep, but every time I read the words, “margin of error,” I see the words, “margin of fraud.”

Oftentimes, voting comes out better for 'pubs in MA than the polls predict. That's because the conservative-in-some-ways rural areas are (1)underpolled and (2)many who live there answer polls by saying "none of your damn business".

If Duvall Patrick loses, it's a stunning and deserved indictment of his friendship with Obama.

“Four laters later. Is that a long time ago?”

LOL. Definitely longer if they are solar laters versus lunar laters.

I do not think they have to cheat in Mass to typically win. I do not think the organization is in place there like it is in other states like OH & PA. It was never necessary.

‘Won’t forget that she’s the woman who said that Curt Schilling was “a traitor” and that Catholics should be legally prohibited from working at a hospital.’

& then there’s her most famous quote:

‘Technically, it’s not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts.’

I wasn’t necessarily referring to MA, but to polls in general.

Warren is trying to be the national version of Coakley.

Hopefully, with similar results .
