One way to change the debate back to national sovereignty is to suggest that the US, to alleviate the humanitarian crisis created by corrupt Central American governments, is now making plans to annex the entire Baja of Mexico as its new territory to place and process all illegal aliens who still will be sent back to their country of origin. The US will also consider annexing certain oil tracts of Mexico to help pay for our efforts. The Dems will also be reminded that their party played an important role in prior expansion of US territory.

I know Gore opposed it, but it was purely political reasons. #1, he knew this would incite the Cuban-American community (whose support for Clinton had increased up to that point) to the point that it would and could jeopardize his carrying Florida (as it turned out, it did). #2, despite his stated opposition, he didn’t aggressively turn on the administration (which if he had, that might’ve helped him in the 2000 election).
I’m surprised in the end he didn’t harbor more publicly bitter feelings towards Clinton and Reno, as it did contribute to his loss. I’d have been enraged.

Concur with your observation. Supporting Elian’s stay would not be convenient for those promoting the socialist / communist narrative. That US Government business jet could not get down the runway quick enough. The US flag had been shredded and left in the closest graveyard available. Done by our own leadership.
All Elian got was a life that had to be compliant with autocratic rule from a dictator instead of the life that could have been and be. Elian’s Mother who died bringing her son to life a second time paid the price for this US Government Administration run stunt. A metaphorical abortion of Elian took place as a result.
