The socialists and communists of Europe learned a great deal from the Nazis, and copied them.
The Hitler Jugend were founded on the idea that children would be indoctrinated to be the next generation of party leaders. The Nazis recognized that their first generation of party leaders had considerable disagreement as to the party’s philosophy. So once these doctrines were finalized, they wanted the disagreements to end, and the way to do it was to raise the next generation of party leaders with doctrinal purity.
In Norway, the socialists and communists had youth leagues before, but they had no great purpose. But they recognized and agreed with with the Nazis had done, so just five years later, the socialists and communists merged their youth leagues on a similar model.
Their Workers’ Youth League (AUF) still exists today, and still has the concept of creating a next generation of socialist party leaders in Norway. It is seen as such a *vital* part of the party organization that the attack by Anders Behring Breivik hit them at their very core, and may have crippled socialism in Norway for a generation or more.
This was especially bitter to the socialists there, because Norway was already on the ropes to being destroyed as a nation, culture and ethnic people by the socialists, who see nations, unique cultures, and distinct ethnic groups as the enemies of socialism. With so many of the AUF killed, the socialist program may be set back again, a generation or more, giving the Norwegian nation, culture and people the chance to recover.
