Take Condoleezza Rice, the daughter of sharecroppers born into segregation.

No, but she is related to sharecroppers. From Wikipedia:

Rice was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the only child of Angelena (née Ray) Rice, a high school science, music, and oratory teacher, and John Wesley Rice, Jr., a high school guidance counselor and Presbyterian minister... Rice has roots in the American South going back to the pre-Civil War era, and her ancestors worked as sharecroppers for a time after emancipation.

Heck, I'm related to sharecroppers. Maternal grandparents. Big family. The kids got educations and went on to do good things. A couple stayed in farming; the others include a doctor, a couple of nurses, a teacher, and a Methodist minister. No Secretaries of State, though.
