There is something truly obscene about the full blown assault on Newt Gingrichs strong Reagan conservative history from and on behalf of Mitt Romney, who unabashedly ran away from the Reagan legacy and conservative principles in his 1994 Senate campaign and 2002 gubernatorial campaign. Truly obscene.
The latest iteration comes from Elliott Abrams writing in National Review, quoting pieces of a single speech Newt apparently gave on the floor of the House on March 21, 1986, in which Newt criticized certain foreign policy decisions of the Reagan administration. Abrams does not link to the full speech or to other speeches of Newt at the time.
Instead much of the anti-Newt conservative media including a screaming Drudge banner accuses Newt of insulting Reagan. It is part of a smear campaign which started when Newt surged in Iowa and National Review unloaded with its infamous Marvin the Maritan issue, and now it has resurfaced once again now that Romney is in electoral trouble.
A more honest assessment comes from Jeffrey Lord at The American Spectator. Lord, who was in a position to know because he witnessed first hand Newts interaction with Reagan, has written a critical column, Reagans Young Lieutenant, Much like Byron Yorks column debunking Romney attacks regarding Newts ethics charges, Lords column is a critical contribution to the truth in a sea of shameless lies.
Lord portrays Newt in a much more favorable light:

Going to do it right now.
It’s at the link. It is Romney distancing himself from Reagan.
As a lifetime reader of Human Events, the conservative Bible (and Reagan’s favorite newspaper), let me remind you all there was plenty of conservative criticism of the Reagan administration. Remember, not everybody who worked for Magnus Ronaldus was a conservative, and we used to get pretty steamed up at the attempts by Jim Baker et al to steer left whenever possible. They were so desperate they would even hide Human Events before he got a chance to read it.
Wow. Listen to this.
Clear as a bell she says, “Ronnie turned that torch over to Newt”

Go to Newt.com find the contact button. You can also drop a couple of bucks in the kitty on the next page, but after filling out information so they won’t be spammed, you may leave a message and a link.
Left the York article mentioned above yesterday.
That has got to be the most powerful video I’ve ever seen! Now I truly understand why Michael Reagan came out to endorse Newt!
Amazing!
I just went to Newt’s FB site and posted it on his wall and also on the states with Newt Florida site. I tweeted it too...it kept disappearing from the FB wall....but I got a bunch of comments in ONE minute flat...get this out folks! keep posting it on Newt’s site, Romney’s FB site (LOL) and tweet it
Hi lady! It’s newt.org. :-)
Click on the “Legal Insurrection” link in the title of the post and there is a second video under the Nancy video. It’s one that Newt should use WITH the Nancy video in an ad!
“There is something truly obscene about the full blown assault on Newt Gingrichs strong Reagan conservative history...”
Yep. Anyone doubting this, check out the current Drudge headline.
The Republican Establishment and media can go perform an obscene act on themselves. They’re as bad as the democrats. I thought honesty and fair-mindedness were characteristics of our party... but, no. When push comes to shove, these people will pull no punches, nor restrain from ANY absurd propaganda to further their “moderate” agenda. They’re no better than the Democrats, and deserve the same degree of contempt from anyone who considers themselves a true conservative.
Drudge has been deleted from my favorites too.
it’s not political with Drudge....Drudge is sleepin w/ Ann Coulter’s brother and Coulter is sleepin with Drudge’s sister
no really.......
I just tweeted this to Drudge and asked him to put it front and center, and with the siren, LOL
Haha, nice :D
Thought I was going to .com, but it’s been .org all along and I didn’t notice. No wonder I couldn’t get it to download the other day.
Make sure you read this article, mentioned above

“Praise the Lord and pass the admonitions” should be the theme of this primary.
Thanks for the ping, Lake. Checking it out now.
Which is the same wing of the party who opposed Reagan and preferred Ford in ‘76 and Bush in ‘80.
You and me both, brother! Drudge, along with Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, and the other hysterical talking heads, can get bent. This election cycle has brought a LOT of closeted establishment elites out of the woodwork.
I sent Newt’s team a message about this on the Newt.org contact form. Here’s hoping Newt brings this up in the debate tomorrow night!
Of course, he may not have the chance, given everything Romney has said over the past few days. So many gaffes, so little time.
Right on Crouton! Maybe she’s sleeping with drudge and the maher abomination at the same time!
eeewww! sorry for the visual!
