Cain Accuser Wants to Tell Story, Lawyer Says
NY Times ^ | November 01, 2011 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR and JIM RUTENBERG

November 1, 2011 Cain Accuser Wants to Tell Story, Lawyer Says By MICHAEL D. SHEAR and JIM RUTENBERG The lawyer for one of the two women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment said Tuesday that she wanted to come forward but was bound by a confidentiality agreement with the National Restaurant Association.

The lawyer, Joel P. Bennett of Washington, said in an interview that his client was calling upon the association to release her from the confidentiality agreement so that she could speak publicly about what happened with Mr. Cain.

“He’s no longer an employee of the National Restaurant Association, so the National Restaurant Association could argue that well, he’s no longer an employee so it doesn’t bind” the women, Mr. Bennett said.

Appearing on Fox News on Tuesday evening, shortly after The Washington Post first reported Mr. Bennett’s comments, Mr. Cain declined to call on the restaurant association to release the woman from the agreement.

“I just found out about this today,” Mr. Cain said. “I can’t give you a definitive answer on that until we consult with our attorneys.”

Mr. Cain said that there could be “legal implications” if the women involved were released from the confidentiality agreements. He did not say what those implications might be. He also said he did not think that he had waived confidentiality by talking about the incidents.

“I never used the name,” he said. “I don’t believe that I have.”

It is pathetic watching folks on our own side buying into the Leftist’s plans. They must seriously laugh their a$$es off at us thinking: “It can’t be this easy?”

Five figures is chicken feed. Not much of a settlement means not much of a case. With the accused being so high up, if there was something the settlement would have been more substancial. Corporations find it’s easier to throw a few bucks at whiners to get rid of them rather than dragging out nothing. That’s what this sounds like. Five figures does not sound like he threw her on the floor and had his way. Short of that, I’m not buying the hoopla.

Somebody has offered her the big bucks for her story,of course it will be actively exagerated.

“Apparently, they were not baseless, or there would have been no settlement nor need to seal the terms of the settlement.

Something is not right.”

What’s not right are your observations. So now Cain is suspect? So tell us Tom, why is this lady coming out now...hmmm? Does this not spark even a tiny bit of curiosity on your part? If it doesn’t, this is troubling.

Seems your charge of “something is not right” should be directed at this lady...not Mr. Cain.

It gets so F-ing old watching folks on our side continually buying into the Liberlas premises. Good grief...they must crap themselves laughing about how easy it is to make us bail on our candidates!

Funny you have no problem with this Lady coming out now...after all of these years!

You Perry supporters have no shame.

I don’t think this has a thing to do with Hillary...it’s much bigger than that. This is about continuing the far left takeover of the United States - i.e. The Fundamental Transformation as Obama called it. They don’t want to be derailed by a former pizza CEO.

The only reason TomGuy has a problem with Cain, is because he's a Perry supporter. My guess is, if these same accusations were made against Perry, Tom would screaming that they were baseless. Next!

That’s the transcendental stuff ~ which is certainly important in the grand scheme of things, but in the here and now the LAWYER is a Clintonista. He is there to advance Hillary’s opportunities.

Hillary says she done - and I actually believe her. She sure looks like she’s had it.

Why would the accuser want to “tell” her side of the story - after all these years? In her mind, the details would have magnified with each passing year.

The most honest way to hear her side of her story is for her or her lawyer to disclose the original transcript of the case.

As I see it, the only reason she wants to tell her truth is so that she can have her 15 mins and she’s upset that Mr Cain kept her name confidential.

I saw that ~ she’s not running because that would, ostensibly, be for 4 years from now. That doesn’t mean Bill gave up scheming and lying.

She wants to “tell her side” because she didn’t even keep a copy of her complaint, nor did her lawyer maintain the file.

Yeah, this thing could well be the NRA or someone in the NRA freelancing. The Dems would have timed it differently, and none of the Repub candidates would have done this — too slimy and too much potential for blowback.

Why else would the lawyer be telling us she "wants to tell" about it.

If you have the original file, just submit it to scrutiny by an independent and nonpartisan committee to see if there's any obvious merit to it.

There's not the slightest inkling in anything the lawyer said that indicates he actually can lay his hand on the file, or that even if he can, that he wants to.

He's probably counting on the Association to have TOSSED IT OUT AFTER 7 YEARS since it would have been of interest only to the accounting department!

She can pay the settlement back and do what ever she wants but I guess that would be too much to ask...

How what? it is common practice to pay anyone who makes a claim because it is cheaper than gong to court but it has made these sort of claims ground zero for women who want extra cash....

The accusation is out; the damage of the accusation is done. Right now, we have claims and speculation that it was nothing and that it was something. Nothing certain to close the book one way or another.

The only way this gets better for Cain is for all the facts to come out.

Not true at all.Settlements happen all of the time no matter what because it is a cheap way to deal with it rather than the cost of fighting it.You must live in a sheltered world not to know this?
