PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Anti-Wall Street protesters around the U.S. who are vowing to stand their ground against the police and politicians are also digging in against a different kind of adversary: cold weather.
With the temperature dropping, they are stockpiling donated coats, blankets and scarves, trying to secure cots and military-grade tents, and getting survival tips from the homeless people who have joined their encampments.
"Everyone's been calling it our Valley Forge moment," said Michael McCarthy, a former Navy medic in Providence. "Everybody thought that George Washington couldn't possibly survive in the Northeast." Valley Forge in Pennsylvania was the site of the Continental Army's winter camp during the Revolutionary War....

The script for this was written long ago. As a novelist, I can tell you the next chapters. I wrote all about them in my novels, especially my third novel. I didn't have to be particularly prescient, I just had to look at the last 20 times this play has run.
This is an old, old screenplay, and all the players are in place. The wounded ex-Marine is their new martyr. Etc. Hand me a barf bag, we have seen it all before. Maybe John Kerry will come out and show them how to throw medals over a fence.
I don’t remember seeing pot, bongos and iPods in the historical paintings of Valley Forge. I do remember seeing patriots dressed in rags whose skin was cracked and bleeding because of how cold it was. And they didn’t have mommies and daddies to run home to when it got too bad.
So whos fault will it be when one of these kids dies of exposure?
One can only hope, but if one of the little scum does succumb to the angel of death, I'll take the blame because God will have answered one of my prayers.
I don't think God will grant that kind of a mean spirited prayer, but why not try?
Obviously not too many former Scouts.
Somehow I don’t think these little pot smoking college kids are going to fare too well in the freezing rain and snow. I give it 48 hours before they all head home to Mom and Dad’s basement.
They won’t. The tents will be empty at night, the professional protestors staying at area hotels, courtesy of the 200K+ slush fund they are running from internet donations.
I agree.
More like their Valley Girl Moment. Insipid scum.
Valley Forge? ROTFL!
I predict “Occupy Wall Street” will go the way of the “Poor People’s March” of 1968 and the “Great Peace March” of 1986. Both of these protests were heavily promoted by the loons on the Left and got a lot of media coverage, yet they quickly fizzled out when the weather turned wet.
When OWS freeloaders start eating their shoes because they are starving, sleeping in snow and ice with only the clothes on their backs and marching hours with bloody feet in the snow and ice in sub-freezing temps to fight for liberty’s cause THEN and only THEN will I be impressed.
Until then.... they shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as our revolutionary soldiers.
If you want to make it your Valey Forge moment - do this:
leave your down LL BEAN Jackets and warm clothing home and see if you can survive without food and warm clothing!!
Those at Valley Forge were heroes. They SACRIFICED everything to bring about a Country based on FAITH FREEDOM and LIBERTY. The riff raff in the parks have NOTHING in common with those at Valley Forge. In fact they mostly would destroy what the Valley Forgers brought about...........
