Human nature is depraved, and thus every political system will be 'imperfect' (to put it kindly).
But like you said, in the real laboratory of human life we see what happens when Capitalism vs. Communism is tried. Capitalism leads to greater wealth and freedoms. There are many bumps along the way, but it trends in the right direction. Communism trends to slavery, poverty, and madness - where human life is treated as having no value other than being a tool for the State.

That was certainly a horror show. The only difference in Nazi Germany and Cambodia is Hitler had more power to kill than Pol Pot.
