September 3, 2011 Palin Rails Against ‘Crony Capitalism’ and ‘Career Politicians’ By JEFF ZELENY
INDIANOLA, Iowa — Sarah Palin did not say whether she would seek the Republican presidential nomination, but she made clear during a speech here on Saturday that she has no intentions of simply falling into line behind one of the party’s leading candidates.
At times she sounded like a candidate. At times she did not.
But in a 40-minute speech before a Tea Party rally here, which was one of her most expansive addresses since she accepted the Republican vice presidential nomination three years ago, she railed against “crony capitalism” in both parties. She suggested that the “permanent political class” — Republicans, too — needed to be rattled.
“You know that it’s not enough to just change up the uniform,” Ms. Palin said. “If we don’t change the team and the game plan we won’t save our country.”
Her appearance at a Tea Party of America rally drew about 2,000 people on a rainy afternoon. A persistent downpour turned the grounds of the National Balloon Classic Field about 20 miles south of Des Moines into a soggy and muddy mess, but that did not deter the crowd from sitting outdoors for several hours to await her arrival.

It’s Labor Day weekend....probably no one around...
It was a good speech that I just saw an hour ago.
She’s hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned.
The business as usual politics of business and labor buying Democrats and Republicans in Washington must end.
There needs to be a fixing of our national debt without this continued game of increasing it to bail out business which can only end with a serious collapse of the economy.
Are we supposed to believe she’s delivering a veiled attack on Governor Perry?
Of Governor Perry, she wrote in her 2009 endorsement letter:
“He walks the walk of a true conservative”.

And not only did she not mention crony capitalism in her endorsement, she has not mentioned it since Governor Perry announced his candidacy, in referencing him. I’m sure she has in referencing Obama.
Where has she been on this, if we are supposed to believe she was aiming this at Governor Perry?
I guess, if she was, suddenly it isn’t good enough that she thinks Rick Perry “walks the walk of a true conservative”.
Well, how can that not be good enough? Could she be saying he’s a conservative, but he’s also a crook? And I’m just now bringing that up after all this time because...oh, never mind.
It’s all so confusing...
I think she has always been opposed to crony capitalism, her position is consistent on the matter. People just draw a connection to Rick Perry and make the assumption that her comments are directed towards him due to the fact that the accussation appears to be an appropriate one for him.
Sarah Palin never said Rick Perry was honest and wouldn’t give “special consideration” to contributors.

Good post, but has been done with many on FR recently about Sarah Palin, they have been moved to less read forums like Bloogers and Personal or GOP club.
You posted a news story, it should be on the News/Activism thread.
Sarah didn’t earn the nicknames “Sarah Barracuda”, or “The Wasilla Warrior” just because they’d make a good press release. Competitive to her core, she’ll stand and fight for worthy causes just as fiercely as she defended the basket way back in High School

You fell into the trap. The media implies she meant Perry. Can’t this primary arguement be about something more than personal attacks formented by the media? Say something like the issues, or even worse, solutions?
The only person she mentioned by name was the ultimate opposition but she did isolate herself from a past commitment with the Hobbit reference. She put everyone on notice that her debt was paid in full.
Great speech in content but Sarah is a voice coach away from being President. Please let her come down a few octaves.
She also warned that the GOP candidates who raised big money needed to be asked what was promised for those large donations. That in reality could only be Perry and Mitt.
And, she essentially said that even some good conservatives had become corrupted.
No names, but the spotlight was directed in the right direction.
Be mindful she chooses her words very carefully as I’m sure you do as well. In that, the “spot” always gets larger the further you are away from the light and that baloon field was very far away.
I subscribe she was spreading it out, far and wide. Her main arguement is with the permanent political class and anyone who remotely falls into that light has been shined upon.
She does choose her words carefully and I think she meant both targeted and diffused light.
She brilliantly framed her campaign for anyone who chooses to pay attention: there will be no actual right-sizing of government without cutting the corruption, so simple ‘small government bromides’ such as what Perry is pitching aren’t enough. Serious reform is needed to restore the country—and our economy.
What’s more, it is incumbent on voters to look for a presidential candidate who has the will and the proven way to face down corruption in both parties.
That is only Palin and she doesn’t need to be too direct in pointing out the limits in this area among the other candidates.
All in good time and measure. That was the first shot in an unlimited target zone. It served its purpose to let everyone know they were on notice and with it the long knives of the Rove bunch were flying.

10-4. One last thing. Every speech has its one quote. This one I thought was the best because it most quantifies the one crutch the elites cannot stand without;
“Polls,” Palin said, “are for strippers and cross country skiers.”
That’s definitely the catchiest. My personal favorite, however, was pointing out that on-air consultant-pundits were often paid off by candidates looking for them to say good things about them.
She’s been in the belly of the Fox beast long enough to know how corrupt they are.
