Jet industry furious at Obama
The Daily Caller ^ | 6 Jul 2011 | Caroline May

Much has been made of President Barack Obama’s repeated demonizing of corporate jets and the people who fly on them in his June 29th press conference.

While pundits and politicians haggle over whether alterations in the depreciation schedule of corporate jets will actually have an impact on the deficit, those in the general aviation trenches are furious.

Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPO) President Craig Fuller told The Daily Caller that Obama’s comments have cast a pall over the industry, causing many who were considering buying a plane to back away from making a purchase.

“The industry has suffered terribly in the last two and a half years and it has just started to recover. Most of the signs were starting to look good,” said Fuller. “We are so angry as an industry and we have all come together to try to bring a more fair and balanced description to the debate.”

In response to Obama’s press conference, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) issued a letter to the president. The two organizations challenged the administration’s rhetoric and recalled a similar instance in which 20,000 IAM workers were laid off as a result of “ill-informed criticism of corporate jets and business aviation” and the 2008 downturn.

“Words have consequences and, in this industry, a few misguided words can put at risk even the ever-so-modest recovery we have experienced,” said IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger. “What this industry and its workforce requires is more time to recover, a chance to book more orders and the opportunity to recall more workers.”

The president himself saw a benefit in providing tax breaks for corporate jets just in the past couple of years, signing two pieces of legislation that contained such provisions: the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the Small Business Lending Fund Act.

Indeed, one of of the greatest perks of being president is flying in the most private jet of all, Air Force One. According to Fuller, Obama has flown Air Force One more than any other president in history.....Zero expects us to do as he says...not as he does.

Obama's intended result. Can't have all those people with jobs and therefore not dependend on government handouts.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That's not leadership. That's not going to happen." Barack Obama We have to make sure other countries approve of our way of life.

I was just thinking if the TSA is going to be even MORE obtrusive at the airport, we might all want to chip in together and take a private jet, and skip the whole airport mess. Could probably be done. But not if Obama shuts down the private jet business. What is it with this Marxist? Why does he wish to destroy America?

I have never set my AC on 72. 72 in summer would be too cold for the AC. 72 in winter would be too hot. But it is NUN HIS BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He just picks a number out of his head, numbers and words that make no sense, and he just rants and raves like a Marxist two year old idiot brat.

I see AOPA sent out a news item about this.

When McCain and Obama were running, AOPA took a mushy position in the middle. They didn’t delve into either candidate’s position that wasn’t directly related to aviation.

They didn’t have the guts to talk about who would have better overal fiscal policy, or who would be better for the ecomony, though both directly affect GA and commerial air travel.

Gutlss wonders, the AOPA, with a big flaming liberal as their org’s president.

Yes, and this is more proof (if we needed any) that Obama is simply an economic ignoramus. Either that or he's some king of evil genius. I take the former rather than the ladder.

I'd have Air Force One maintenance double checked in the future if I was Obama.

Obama doesn’t care about the companies, but now he’s got a union mad at him.

Can some conservative commentator please spin this as Obama not caring about unions?

Why would intelligent people who have the money to afford a jet even pay attention to what Obama says? They’re not going to buy a jet because Obama says so?

This whole argument about taxing the rich because they have "unfair loopholes" in the tax code is specious at best. The loophole they are talking about is accelerated depreciation, a loophole that was created by Congress, not corporate fat cats. My little one-man consulting company used to take advantage of AD, as did most other small (and large) businesses. You Bozo's in Washington created the loopholes, so why do you make it sound like the rich are the bad guys? Sure, they pay lobbyist to get things done, but it helped out a lot of small guys, too. Why did they do it? Because it make economic sense to do so...to pump investment dollars into the economy.

If you want to cut out the loopholes, the easiest way is to ditch the entire IRS Code and have a simple, no deductions, flat tax and be done with it. That way, what you idiots in Washington will have a less detrimental affect that you currently do.

When are people going to wake up and recognize and admit Obama is purposely destroying jobs and the American economy?
