Fourth of July Parades; Bad Harbinger for Liberals
7/4/11 | Bowtie

It’s a fun, yet quiet community, just west of Tampa, Florida. It is probably best known as the home of the Safety Harbor Spa. Safety Harbor was the site of a small Fourth of July parade that can only be called perfect homespun Americana. Residents lined up on Main Street in rows that were, in some places, 15 and 20 deep. Some sat in lawn chairs while others stood and all were sincere as they paid their respects to the July 4th date as well as the flag. Patriots, one and all stood to salute the colors as they passed. All removed their hat, many saluted, children were hushed and some had a tear in their eye when the flag took the center stage as it passed. It was a scene that Norman Rockwell could not have improved upon.

It was a scene that Norman Rockwell could not have improved upon.

It hasn’t always been like this. In years gone by, the flag has been treated with something less than the reverence it deserves. The American flag, at one time was taken for granted; no more. Quiet dignity is now shown by the God fearing individuals who lined these narrow streets. They are becoming keenly aware that their way of life is being threatened by this Administration. They showed and are showing a renewed respect for the flag and all the flag represents.

This was no media event; the parade was organized and conducted through volunteer efforts. There was no spectacular or headline events that took place. Nothing happened that would even rise to the term; noteworthy. When the crowd disembarked Main Street the feeling in the air was electric. Patriotism was on display for all to see. The streets were as clean when the crowd left as they were when the crowd arrived. Police were called to block off roadways, nothing else; there were no incidents that required for their attention and they kept a low profile accordingly.

It almost sounds like a scene from the 1950’s. In many ways, Americans are returning to the values they once held dear. This does not bode well for the Progressive Ideology that has temporarily infested the Halls of Government. These people and millions like them are in the process of taking back America. They are no longer willing to stand by and watch the precious gift of freedom give way to a radical concept.

Happy Fourth!!!!

At the Independence Day parade here in my Indiana burg, when the Dem party float came by, I yelled

“how’s that stimulus working out these days”

I’m getting mellow in my old age

last year some guy gave me a flyer for a Dem congress candidate

I spit on it and ground it under my foot in the street as they watched, LOL

Your description of the hometown 4th of July Parade brought back many memories of years gone by. It also depicts how respect for the flag should be. We, as Americans, seem to forget that our flag represents the investment of a lot of lost lives. It is not just a piece of cloth that stands for a temporary Administration and plot of land.

People have died for the freedom that flag represents. The older generation know what it represents because they had to actually make decisions on what it was worth to them. Maybe it is time the rest of us make some decisions too. Defend your flag wherever it is not being given the proper respect.

Thanks for the reminder Bowtie

Where can I watch fireworks on the net? PBS doesn’t seem to have last years either.

Some PBS’s are probably running the Arthur Fiedler 4th of July show. The guy has only been dead since 1978 or ‘79.

Today at our hometown parade, there was a large crowd in attendance. When the republican float came by, people stood and clapped. When the democrat float came by, the crowd was silent. We’re taking our country back in 2012!

At our local parade, the Republican float got wild applause. There was no dim float at all.
