Romney 23%
Palin 17%
Cain 8%
Gingrich 7%
Paul 7%
Bachmann 5%
Pawlenty 4%
Santorum 3%
Huntsman 1%

How many would turn to Palin if she and Romney were the only ones running? Quite a few I take it.

Well hopefully this time “conservatives” will accept nothing less than REAL Conservative candidates and will be looking for the creds

Palin hasn't even declared yet, and she's number 2.

As soon as she declares in September the rest of the field will disappear in her rear-view mirror.

If Romney is the GOP candidate I’ll vote third party.

Random Poll from June 2007:

Giuliani 27
Don't Know/NA 17
Thompson, F. 15
McCain 15
Romney 10
Gingrich 5
Huckabee 2
Hunter 1
Paul 1
Tancredo 1
Thompson, T. 1
Brownback 1%
Gilmore -
SOMEONE ELSE(VOL) 2
WOULDN'T VOTE(VOL) 1
Note that the candidate NOT in the race, Fred Thompson, was already second, with 15% to Giuliani's 27%, not too much different from the Romney/Palin spread.

And at the time, we all said "If only he'd get in the race -- he's already 2nd and he's not even running".

When he entered the race, he pushed for the lead, I think he even took the lead in one poll, although in most polls he was simply within the margin of error of Giuliani.

In the end, neither Giuliani or Thompson survived, instead McCain came back from dropping into single digits, and one the nomination, after Huckabee cleared the field for him by taking the social conservatives from Thompson and Romney.
