...During a C-SPAN Newsmakers interview aired on Sunday, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) repeatedly reiterated his support for tax increases. The guest reporters for this edition of Newsmakers were Lori Montgomery of the Washington Post and Andrew Taylor of the Associated Press. Below are key excerpts from the interview:
...
Coburn: I would much rather have a smaller government. Not everybody would. But I would much rather have a smaller government. But I know we have to pay more for what we have if we are ever going to get reform and some of the other things. Its called a compromise. So were gonna have to give some on revenues to be able to do that...

Take this article and others I found to the fight to the Libs on their own turf; put the Left on the defensive at at Digg and at Reddit and in Delicious and Stumbleupon
why is it that “conservatives”
melt down into liberal spenders
but never vice versa?
Coburn doesn’t understand history, unfortunately. Somehow, we never get to see the spending reductions when we make deals on tax policy. These are two distinct separate issues because higher tax rates are not the same as revenue increases. If someone wants to make a case that we need more revenue, than we need to identify what changes would help increase revenue. Spending must be reduced regardless of tax rates. We can’t possibly ever pay for the spending projected for the next 10-20 years, no matter what the government confiscates.
Poor guy. Drank too much Kool-Aide.
Every time our side “compromises,” the government is going to get bigger. If your position is “not-X” and their position is “X” and you “compromise” for “.5X” what have you gained? What have they lost? Its not like they can’t come back next year and the rest of “X” and there is no chance in Hell that our side can ever get rid of “.5X.”
The time for compromise is over. Now its time for defunding and gridlocking.
just make sure to start with the 63.5million who don’t pay a dime of federal income tax...
2) It's my belief that some conservatives are compromised in some way and this is exploited by the Dems. The marxist Democrat Party plays hardball politics and they're not above engaging in extortion and blackmail for political gains.
Doctor Dumba$$ still hasn’t gotten the memo that raising tax rates lowers tax receipts. Maybe it’s time to head back to the clinic.
Other places need a primary challenger more than Coburn does..
BUT the TpCaucus should pay him a visit.. or watch him closely..
the evil side of me wants congress to raise taxes too just to prove that there will not be an increase in revenue.
Historically, the figure is about 20% GDP. If you want more revenue, increase the capacity for GDP to increase.
This is the time of diminishing returns that we’ve warned about. As Obama’s solicitor general argued...Don’t like the tax, earn less revenue.
Go Galt.
Compromising with the devil does not ensure you a cooler place in HELL
Just got off the phone with Dr. Coburn's office...and he did actually say this. I replied..that I hope his recommended tax was on the 48% in this country that don't pay Income Taxes....HA!!
I can easily make 15%-20% less....and still maintain my lifestyle. Going Galt for sure!!
We work hard and elect our guys and when they get to Washington they ain't our guys any more.
Disappointed in Coburn. His co-sponsorship of SR 511 gave Dems the gall to nominate Obama. Then, Dean and Pelosi forced some of Hillary’s delegates to switch. So, indirectly Coburn gave us Obama. What a legacy! This is his last term. He could redeem himself by calling a press conference and telling the truth about Obama and McCain’s ineligibility. He lacks the integrity.
