Thinking about going to Pittsburgh [Vanity]

Posted on 04/23/2011 11:02:15 AM PDT by rickmichaels

(Sorry for the vanity but you were warned.)

I've got a week off work coming up soon and I might take the wife to Pittsburgh. I know I'll get a few smartass comments, but seriously, what's good in Pittsburgh? Museums, art galleries, restaurants, parks, etc. Thanks.

As far as restaurants go, check out Primanti Bros. in the strip district—they’ve been featured on the Food Network and the Travel Channel for their sandwiches.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History and Art is a nice visit with close parking, reasonable admission price and a really cool dinosaur display! Also Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium is worth a visit.

Oh my. I second the Carnegie museums. How about the Andy Warhol exhibit? Primanti Brothers sandwiches, Rivers Casino next to Heinz Field, shopping at Station Square, take the tram car thingie up for a view of the city!! Lot’s to do for the day. Park your car, grab a city map and go!

Where are you going to take her after Pittsburgh - Cleveland or Detroit?

Primanti Brothers
http://www.primantibrothers.com/

Try to go to the original store, the satellite shops are hit and miss on quality.

Also, heckling Mrs. Kerry-Heinz is always deeply satisfying.

The only good thing to ever come out of Pittsburgh is I-376 east. :-)

Check out the Hindu temple. It is very authentic and architecturally like the ones in India.

Actually Cleveland is a much better destination than Pittsburgh:

The world famous Art and Rock and Roll Museums, also Aviation, Automobile, natural science and local history museums, the Emerald Necklace parks, Jacobs Field, boating on the lake, a tour of the world's greatest number of drawbridges, pubbing in the Flats, play houses and other arts related attractions, summer concerts at the Blossom Music Center...

...and Cedar Point (world's greatest destination for roller coaster aficionados) is just a few hours to the west.

Seriously, why Pittsburgh? You’re traveling from Canada just to go to Pittsburgh?

Have always said that Pittsburgh is a nice place to live but I wouldn’t want to visit there. Simply not a tourist town. Had to laugh at some of the suggestions. Primantis? Their big claim to fame is that they pile cole slaw and french fries on their otherwise pedestrian sandwiches. Shopping at Station Square? Junk and not at all interesting.
If you come do take the incline to Mt. Washington for a terrific view of the city.
Why are do you want to come to Pittsburgh? What are you interests?

You know what the best thing to ever come out of Pittsburgh is?

An empty bus.

Next weekend Pittsburgh hosts the NRA Annual Meeting. I’ll be spending Friday and Saturday in the exhibit hall.
