U.S. immigration bosses wreck 9-year-old British boy’s dream trip to Disneyland

Like any normal nine-year-old, meeting Mickey Mouse and friends at Disneyland would have turned Micah Strachan's birthday into the fairytale he had only ever dreamed of.

But a surprise trip, arranged by his grandparents, was cruelly dashed when U.S. immigration officials turned him away - because they claimed he was a flight risk.

Kathy and Edward Francis spent months planning every detail of the 'holiday of a lifetime' to Florida to celebrate grandson Micah's tenth birthday. Nope, the ones who got him a South African passport as a British citizen did.

His South African passport may have been the problem.

The Department of Homely Security is probably more interested in interdicting nascent “white terrorists” than going after Islamic maniacs.

My guess is if his name was Mohammad Akbar Al-Jihad, they never would have bothered him.

Actually, I think the question is, why is he trying to fly on a South African passport, if he’s British.

I don’t think the suspicion is that he’s a terrorist, but that if he is allowed into the country, he might not leave.

I have a hard time finding sympathy for a kid from a family able to span the globe for mouse fun, when several million American kids already in Califa can not afford to get into the Anaheim park.

Is this kid a mooselimb ?>

Something stinks about this. His parents can drive to Disney from Britain.

“Kathy and Edward Francis spent months planning every detail of the ‘holiday of a lifetime’ to Florida to celebrate grandson Micah’s tenth birthday...”

Every detail except ensuring that his passport was in order. Idiots.

And if Immigration DID let him in and he overstayed, people would be whining, years from now, that ICE did not do it’s job.

Check the average winter weather in EuroDisney vs. U.S. Disney, either location. Get back to us.

Why did they think this kid was any greater flight risk than any other 9 year old boy?

He wasn't denied by Customs on arrival. He was denied an entry visa by Dept. of State.

I'm no expert, but I don't think he would need a visa if he held a British passport.

Is Michael Savage still banned from the UK? If so, then I don’t want to hear whining from their government.

Now, by cracky. Proof that the Janet No-polatino and Homeland Security are finally cracking down on possible UDAs and maybe tourist er terrorist.
Way to go Janet! Stop’em in their tracks.
Why that lil kid could have recked untold havoc on Disneyland or even Disneyworld. Just think about it, cutting in lines,, spilling soda pop and leaving chewing gum wrappers on the ground. Maybe even screaming with delight. And And And he possibly, could have, maybe overstayed his visa.

If he’s going to Disneyland, why on Earth is he flying to Florida?

I agree 100%. The grandparents seem to think that they can just whisk their grandkid off to a foreign country any time they want without a valid passport.

We're taking our kid on a Disney Cruise. We got him a valid US passport 2 years before the trip.

Otherwise, anyone from any country could enter the USA at any time on the pretense that they're "going to Disney".

The mix-up is Disney LAND which is in California, and Disney WORLD, which is in Florida. I always remember the difference because I worked for a rental car company for two years, and WDW is one of the abbreviations for Orlando rental car locations.

If the wasn't using the sarcastic font, are you sure you are on the right site? Have you considered one that promotes "social fairness"
