Sarah, we know youre an anti-elitist. Is that why you dont believe in a college education for your kids? Its so strange: You went to college, five colleges in fact, before you wrapped up your bachelor of communications degree from the University of Idaho. Your father was a science teacher, your mother was the school secretary, and your brother Chuck is a teacher so why dont you EVER promote the value of education even in your own family?
You have no problem speaking out against First Lady Michelle Obamas anti-obesity campaign for children. That means you dont even like the idea of Michelle educating parents on the dangers of fattening food.
(VIDEO AT LINK)
And having watched every episode of Sarah Palins Alaska, Ive heard you repeatedly laud family values, the work ethic and the importance of taking individual initiative.
These are all great things BUT Ive never heard you mention the value of education once.
And Im wondering if you are shortchanging your own children by not encouraging and enabling them to go to college. Take Bristol, for example her dreams of going to college to get a nursing degree were cut short by her teen pregnancy at age 17. Then once she had baby Tripp, now 2, she sadly resigned herself to possibly going to a community college to study real estate instead.
And even that was dependent on getting free babysitting from her father Todd, sister Willow and other family members, she said.
Now Sarah, why should her dreams and opportunities be cut short because she was a teen mom? You can afford to send her to college and help her with babysitting or day care costs! Its estimated that youve earned up to $12 million since resigning from your position as Governor of Alaska.
Your books, your speaking engagements, your FoxNews commentating position and your reality show have all raked in big bucks for you. Plus, Bristol may have earned enough from Dancing with the Stars to have at least paid for her own college tuition.
But have you, Sarah, pushed Bristol to do what only two percent of teen moms are able to do earn a college degree by the age of 30?
Theres absolutely no evidence that the answer to that question is yes!
So Im wondering: Are you just too cheap to help Bristol financially, or do you feel that its important that Bristol be punished for her pregnancy by having college withheld? OR do you truly believe your own propaganda that an elitist college education offers no value for your daughter?
Sarah you certainly arent pushing college for your oldest son Track either. After serving a tour in Iraq, you are encouraging him to take up a career as a salmon fisherman, following in the footsteps of his dad, Todd.
I have nothing against fishing as a career, but whats wrong with a college degree and then fishing. At least hell be equipped to transition to another career should salmon fishing go bust.
Its important that parents and youths be aware that there are constraints in not having a higher education. If youre rolling the dice, there are certainly more career choices, agrees Reed Larson, a professor of human development at the University of Illinois.
If you Sarah arent promoting the value of a college education to your own children, you are denying them HUGE opportunities beyond going camping in the wilds of Alaska or dancing their way into our hearts for a reality show season. If parents dont encourage their kids, there is a large possibility that they wont go to college, points out Jeff Gardere, a clinical psychologist and host of Dad Camp on Twist TV.
What Id hate to think is that you, Sarah, see it as politically detrimental to your folksy, down-home image to have your children go to college.
Youve slammed President Obama repeatedly for being an elitist and now, horrors, you dont want to be painted as one in any way.
If there is a brand to support, its possible shed use all facets of her life to promote that brand, believes psychologist and attorney Sheila Forman.
Id hate to say that might be the case. But if its not, then Sarah Palin Why dont you give Bristol an opportunity to have a bigger and more long-term future than just being a reality star?
I’ll say it again. There’s nothing more unattractive than than a grown woman acting out her adolescent jealousies toward another woman
I think this author makes a good point. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Palin even mention education. Obama’s kids are too young to consider, but there isn’t any reason for anyone to find fault with the educational achievements of the others mentioned...
Chelsea Clinton BA Stanford; MA University College, Oxford; PhD candidate NYU
Karinna Gore: AB Harvard University; JD Columbia
Kristin Gore: AB Harvard University
Sarah Gore: AB Harvard University
Al Gore III: AB Harvard University
Amy Carter: BFA Memphis College of Art; MA Tulane
There are just too many Kennedys to look up, but I think you know what I would find...
Whether Sarah Palin’s kids go to college...or not... is none of Bonnie Fuller’s business.
Actually, if this ignorant, hateful leftist had bothered to do a simple Google search, she would have learned that Bristol was taking business courses at a community college in Anchorage when she was working in a dermatologist’s office earlier this year.

If they want to go, Sarah has a fine school for them to attend. A college beyond the reach of the communists.

Poor Bonnie Fuller doesn’t understand the difference between education, and indoctrination.
.
The first thing that impressed me about this rant is that it is so poorly written. It is amazing that an editor would print this. But who knows what passes for good writing at Hollywood Life?
And hey, Bonnie, in America parents don't force their adult children to do something they may not want to do. Liberals have a hard time accepting the fact that college isn't for everyone and that people are free to decide what direction their life will take. They may not want to go to college, or may want to attend college a bit later in life.
The fact is, Bristol may very well be in her peak earning years right now. Foregoing college now to earn relatively big money could be a wise move, and there is plenty of time for college later should her notability (or notoriety) wane.
People have varied interests and may choose to explore different fields, as I noted above. For example, I wanted to be a teacher since I was a young kid. I used to pretend to be a teacher using my blackboard and chalk, and teach my class to my toys sitting around the table. I think that some people have a good grasp of their vocation early in life, and for others is a slow realization of a dream which eventually materializes. For some, it's experiences even later in life that draw them to their calling.
Some young people don't know what they want to do because they need to find out on their own and at their own pace. Eventually something clicks and they say, OK, this is what I want to do with my life. But Bonnie here is so obtuse that she can't figure it out yet, though I'm inclined to believe that she is just using this latest example as another excuse to trash Sarah and her family.
For someone who supposedly went to college and places a high value on that experience, Bonnie, you don't come across as particularly bright.
> “What the hell is a professor of human development?”

A monster that molds children into Stepford clones.

Wow! What an ignorant elitist bitch. It’s obvious that college didn’t do much for Bonnie Fuller.
You know, it’s the strangest thing... When I was young, that being back in the 80’s, it was assumed by my parents that I would leave high school directly for college and thence to my future career. It did not work that way. I let myself flunk out of college, for lack of interest, really.
I did not know what I wanted to do in life, and thanks to domineering parents, I didn’t until I was in my 30’s, pushing 40. My wife, now in her 40’s, has gone back to school to do what she REALLY wants to do.
My father, like our writer, seemed to think that ‘education’ was some magical embellishment to who you are, and that deciding your career was all about choosing the track that paid the best. Maybe for him, it was. Statistics today show that a great percentage of college graduates are NOT using their degree to earn a living, and instead, are pursuing other things.
We have insulated our kids too far from what the realities of life are, and modern “college” only separates them further, from the practical and real aspects of wisdom, judgement, and life lessons. Yes, some DO know what they want to do. Others have no idea - and I was among that group. Education is an expensive thing, in money, time, and years of your life. It’s best you use it to maximum value, not waste it or employ it badly.
Sorry, I’m not in the corner of pushing for “education” merely for the sake of ‘education’. If your education was good, you learned all you had to know by 5th grade. If you’re wise, and prudent, and make informed decisions about how and when to educate yourself... You are truly head and shoulders above everyone else.
I will not criticise leaders for not being blanket “pushers” for ‘education’, as if it were just another step between adolescence and adulthood. It is not. It is, or at least, it should be, a very serious thing you do when you’re ready, when you know yourself, what you are, who you are, and what you need that education to do for you.
Are you kidding? Bonnie Fuller is college educated. She couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the directions were written on the heel.
Then, after I read post #44, and post #59 I knew where she was coming from...lol.
I used to teach class to all the neighborhood kids and two of my elementary school teachers used to let me grade papers. For years, I thought I wanted to be a teacher, but you followed through!
In case I don't see you tomorrow, I wish you a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
LOL! You got that right.
This is really quite funny, this woman with a liberal arts degree in wordsmithing.
Sarah Palin isn’t but 46 years old. I fiddle footed around in the halls of academia for 25 years before I got one degree and the last two after I was 46. I even got a fourth one because of a job requirement when I decided to change careers. The only reason I got the last one was because a scholarship was offered to me.
Now my head is full of krap I never needed, I’m getting ready to retire, and I only used my teaching certificate for 8 years.
There are boys back home that went directly onto their father’s farm, ranching, and contracting businesses now multi-millionaires. One friend went directly into her mother’s flower shop, now owns a host of green houses supplying half the state. While I will be retiring on a fixed retirement plan plus social security stipend. lol
Oh, the arrogance of the so-called intellectual elite who are going to die and rot in the ground to become maggot bait just like toad frogs and lizards.
What Makes Bonnie [Fuller] Run?
” ....ever since she [Fuller] was imported from Canada ... . Shes dumbed down every magazine shes ever worked for ...”
snip
” .... She tortures every caption.
“And every caption writer. Fuller is legendarily difficult to please, and so obsessed with the product that she churns through staff, regularly burning out editors with dismissive treatment and punishing late nights.”

If you want to teach, yes, any subject will get you toward a job teaching it.
“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” also shows Sarah and her dad TEACHING almost nonstop.
The education valued by the Palin family is their entire lifestyle. Everything they do, includes their children and extended family. I don’t think Bonnie watches the same show I’ve been seeing.
Sarah & Todd take advantage of every opportunity to instill lessons.
As for college aspirations, everyone has opinions about what’s useful.
Thank goodness the Palin kids are being raised to think, learn and EARN for themselves.
