Don’t You Go Away Tea Partiers- The GOP Establishment Is Fighting Back
Conservative Hideout ^ | 11-26-10 | A Conservative Teacher

Next week here in my county we’ll have a Republican County Convention, and for those of you who can’t make it, I’ll give you a taste of what it is going to be- a battle between the Tea Party and the Establishment. Although many people in the Tea Party think this is some sort of new battle, it is in reality an old battle in the GOP, one that has pitted the libertarian/conservative/teaparty wing of Taft/Coolidge/Goldwater/Reagan/Palin vs the moderate/establishment/progressive wing of Roosevelt/Hoover/Nixon/Bush/McCain. For many years, the teaparty wing cowardly left the field of battle and stayed home while the establishment types ran thing, or would win a victory and then go home to pat themselves on the back while their victory was watered down by the establishment, but hopefully today will be different, because although the establishment has suffered some defeats lately, they don’t intend on going home either.

I wish someone who has read her book (well, now she has another one) and heard her speeches could put together a list of some of her positions on various issues.

I know I’m lazy but I don’t have her book/s and don’t have time to do the above.

If anyone ever does that, it would be a great vanity article so people could read more about Palin and what her positions are.

Right now that is difficult, because in 2008, having never been a national candidate herself, she was forced to suddenly appear on the national stage, speaking as McCain’s veep, that colored a lot of her utterings during that period, she had to soft pedal and tamper down many of her personal views in an effort to avoid fatal clashing with the GOP’s Presidential candidate in the final 2 months of a Presidential campaign.

I do hope that someone will pursue that though.

You do that, we conservatives will continue to advance the best thing since Reagan, Governor Palin.

I think that we can stop Mitt Romney, and defeat the establishment.

Not without the principles that hold Conservatism together, you will not. It is those principles, not persons, which cause the Conservative juggernaut to arise.

Any 'victory' without them is Pyrrhic at best.

Gosh, the conservative movement will have to struggle along without you.

No Romney in 2012.

I see what you mean.

Maybe someone could put together a series of questions about issues and present them to her via Facebook or something?

I’m not a Facebooker so I don’t even know how that works.

Gosh, the conservative movement will have to struggle along without you.

Yes... "common-sense conservatism" will have to do just that. Conservatism, however - The House that Reagan built - has my full support.

No Romney in 2012.

LOL!! Yahrightwhatever... What makes you think I would ever endorse him?

Let me make it PERFECTLY CLEAR:

Palin is not far enough to the RIGHT for me. She does not embrace the principles of all three factions (the three pillars of Conservatism), ergo she is not a Reaganite, and I will not vote for her.

Romney is further to the left than Palin, and is less able to join the three pillars of Conservatism - Less able, even, than Palin is.

So your insinuation is simply ludicrous.

I’m not saying that you support Romney, and I didn’t think that you did, but I also doubt that you have anyone lined up to stop him.

Who is your 2012 favorite to stop Mitt Romney?

None, as none have announced.

Who is hoped for? DeMint, Pence... maybe Barbour... Any/All of the other hopefuls are not of Reagan.

None are so blind as those who choose not to see.

I’m seeing just fine.

She campaigned for McCain hard. Told the people of Arizona what a great conservative he is.

Do you agree with her?

Before you waste a lot of time, you need to know that you are responding to a Party Chairman of a third party, they run Alan Keyes for President, so Palin is a competing political party to them.

Laugh if you like... It is the same hubris which last resulted in Obama.

I couldn’t help but laugh at this fire breathing right winger that when faced with the best deal changing conservative since Reagan, and asked to describe his great heroes to replace her, names three pretty conventional guys that we see in every election, you even named Barbour, who has already joined the call for us to surrender on social issues, and has separated himself from this conservative revival by mocking and dismissing Palin, Beck and their “big crowds” (of tea partiers) that he doesn’t even pay attention to as he describes it.

when faced with the best deal changing conservative since Reagan [...]

According to WHAT? It's all wind and wishes. Her record is far from Conservative, and is too short to offer any sort of proof of continuity. She cannot embrace all three pillars of Conservatism, because her record and her words have already boxed her out on all three.

She is pretty, popular, knows how to work a crowd, and there's that "lipstick on a pig" thing... but I see *nothing* of substance to base a vote upon.

[...] asked to describe his great heroes to replace her [...]

Replace her? That presupposes that she HAS a place. And unlike you, it seems, I am not looking for heroes. I am looking for statesmen (as a distinction from politicians). Heroes are found in Saturday morning cartoons... Something I have not attended for well over 4 decades.

names three pretty conventional guys that we see in every election

It seems you judge things by the thrill down your leg, more that by accomplishment. DeMint is hardly ordinary, nor is Pence. And both have skin in the TEA Parties game (unlike your darlin' who has nothing to lose). IIRC, Demint was "all in" on the TEA Parties long before Palin decided to pimp her ride (Pence I follow less closely, but he is no slouch).

[...] you even named Barbour [...]

As to Barbour, My nearest recollection of him is his handling of events post Katrina - His calm demeanor and steady determination were a stark contrast to the cacaphony of NO. His leadership in very hard times is well proven, and a credit to him, and to Mississippi.

He has always been a bit too chummy with the Bushes and their cohorts for my taste, which is a detriment (an indication of neocon), though he seems to tend to the right of them (perhaps borderline).

But all of that is little more than impressions- I have not followed his career very closely, nor will I until he throws his hat in the ring... Then, he will be judged solely by his record rather than mere impressions - Which is why I said "maybe".

If my observations are lacking, there is no doubt that will be corrected once he is a contender, and I look at him in earnest.

BTW, I held much the same benevolence for Palin before her '08 candidacy (benefit of the doubt). It was when I looked at her record that I developed a distaste for her.

This is bizarre, Palin is more tea party than any of your guys, yet you pretend that she is not. You even push the anti-tea party, anti-social conservative, Haley Barbour.

Roamer apparently prefers the Barbour/Pence pro-amnesty wing of the GOP.

She may have taken loyalty too far with McCain, but her other dozens of endorsements better reflect her philosophy.
