Pension plans should stay solvent preferably, but when a union made the negotiations the workers shoulder some of the responsibility. It's not like management forced some non-unionized laborers to accept an overly-generous pension plan.

Even though and maybe especially because I live in California, I agree with not bailing out states. No way. It is like giving drug addicts money. It all goes down the drain and perpetuates the problem. Time to cut ‘em all off and if not to set clear limits on what must be done to solve the problem if they are gonna get the money.
