I mean the idiots who decided to get fluffy degrees and disdain honest work. I’m sure that new societies will form and that should be interesting to see. Farmers will be a priority for defense and villages will form, likely in the feudal form for some time.

Perhaps. But you might want to ask yourself who’s seen further than anyone else.

Feudalism is gone and it isn’t coming back. The structures that were required for feudalism to operate no longer exist.

For one, there is no surplus labour.

Two, 80 percent of the population is confined in the cities.

Three, the technology that would permit them to defend themselves also no longer exists.

No, any society is going to be formed along religious lines. They are the only philosophy that would permit large groups to get together in common defense. They also have the desire to rebuild, preserve and keep things together.

The problem for farmers is simply how much land they would have to protect and defend. With the mechanisation of agriculture, very very few people actually work the land.

Most fields per se are impossible to defend in any concrete fashion.

The second problem is where are the young people? Very few of us live in the rural areas. You can’t run a society without young people. Perhaps 70 years ago when the family would grow together and work together on the farm, you would have an argument, but you don’t see this much anymore.
