“Arrogant, Smug, Condescending Jerk”

Absolutely right! But think about that, what other administration would have a joke of a Press Secretary like Gibbs and he could keep the position for almost 2 years?

His arrogance and smugness are likely part of a plan in my opinion. I think they are intentionally poking at us trying to incite a reaction. Becoming the only thing that makes sense to me...

Any other ideas???

Alinsky:

Like you, I never would have guessed Gibbs would still be around nearly 2 years later. I’d predicted 6 months.

I don’t think there’s a grand strategy to it or or anything approaching a thought-out plan with regards to Gibbs. And I don’t think they’re trying to provoke anything. I think they just don’t give a rat’s behind. They’d love to be adored and respected by all just because they’re entitled to it, but they sure as hell aren’t going to deign to being gracious to the peasants, if that’s what it takes. So next best is to have a mean, ugly, stupid, but loyal junk yard dog between them and the rabble.

Gibbs never answers anything straight, and his smarmy, snarky remarks are precisely what obama would love to say if he could. Gibbs serves as both guard dog and ventriloquist’s dummy—perfect for the job because he 1) evidently lacks any capacity for normal human embarrassment, 2) he’s as condescending as his boss, 3) he’s too stupid to know he looks like an ass, 3)he actually seems to relish the role, and 4)he’s effective at keeping the press at bay.

The administration’s big mistake, though, is at #4. They mistake the media’s lack of will to do their jobs as evidence of Gibbs’ competence. America sees through that. So, in that regard, Gibbs is a blessing. With a less obnoxious and more professional WH spokesperson, we might not be quite so far along in this nation’s awakening.

IMHO, of course. (And thanks a lot for making me think far too much about Robert Gibbs. That can’t be healthy.)
