This isn't novel. Obama said this in 2008:

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

This was uttered in sympathetic territory - at a SF fundraiser. But Reid has just decided to make it a campaign issue.

I hope Angle seizes on this opportunity to lump Reid's comments in with Obama's comments about bitter clingers as they really are one in the same.

Interesting ploy on Harry’s part, since he is Mormon. And, not a born and raised Mormon, either. He converted in early adulthood. According to the leftwing media thinking, Romney’s Mormonism makes him a racist. Why is Mormonism a liability for Mitt Romney (whom I dislike as a Prez candidate, but not for his religion), and not for Harry Reid?
