Hello Patriots in Freeperland !

As the title suggests I am Dr. Bill Escoffery III. One of my advisors suggested I create an account on FreeRepublic and open the floor up for any discussions about my campaign for U.S. Senate. So here it is.

I was born into the Roman Catholic faith, underwent infant baptism and was raised R.C. Later in life I drifted away from the church when the Latin Mass was superceded and as I became aware of a number of controversies affecting the church which we will not re-hash here.

On the other hand I do not believe the Catholic Church to be an invalid expression of Christianity AND I sent my kids to Catholic School (”Cathedral High”) in Indianapolis, Indiana. My daughter was invited to attend both Notre Dame & Boston College. The kids go to Mass every Sunday and my boy is aghast at my attendance at protestant services. (AND I respect his opinion).

From my point of view I support all Christian Churches. I will worship wherever Jesus Christ is venerated & revered. I have found great spiritual power in all the denominations I’ve visited. I delight in the variety of Christian expression I have encountered in the thirty some odd churches I have attended “On Pilgrimage” for my Campaign. I still attend both Catholic and a variety of protestant services. I accepted adult “Re-Baptism” in an Assembly of God congregation in Montana at a time when I attended both Catholic AND Assembly services each Sunday in the town. I believe that my “Born Again” status in the protestant community does not conflict with my infant Baptism as a Catholic. I believe it is time for Christians to recognize their division at the hands of Satan and their awesome potentially power, were they to be reunited. I see myself as an incredibly imperfect but forgiven SON OF THE KING, JESUS CHRIST. My life is a testimony to God’s benevolence to the undeserving. I believe He has called me to serve our country in a political capacity at this time of crisis and I am at His disposal, whatever the outcome!Part of my role may also be to operate as unifier and healer to the Christian Community.

Finally: I do not think it profitable to squander goodwill on minor religious differences at the outset of our great battle against “OBAMANATION”.

AMEN!
/ Bill

I have held four citizenships. But I have not been a citizen of four countries! Does that sound like one of those screwy “Test Questions”, or what? The mystery is solved when I explain that I was born on the Island of Jamaica when it was a British Colony, and remained there after we gained independence (at which point I became “Jamaican”). My Canadian sojourn was a stepping-stone to getting in line for U.S. citizenship since there was no significant quota in my time to come to the U.S. legally from Jamaican. As I tell folks in my stump speech it was too far to swim, and I couldn’t just walk over the border with my bag of Marijuana from Tijuana! So I had to do it legally! My various citizenships were therefore either fortuitous or part of my plan to ultimately achieve U.S. Citizenship.

I think my experience of different governmental paradigms gives me a unique context from which to judge, appreciate and applaud our U.S. brand of Republican Government. My Constitutional Law training as an attorney also gives me an understanding of the damage to the Republic that the Seventeenth Amendment has done by requiring that Senators be elected by popular vote rather than being appointed by the states. The result is that the Senate must now pander to the fickle whim of the voting “Democracy” (47% of whom receive more from the government than they return in taxes); and the states have lost all official representation as states per se, at the federal level. I will work to reverse that by seeking repeal of the seventeenth Amendment.

I lived in Florida for ten years between 1977 & 1987 when the “Malpractice Crisis” of those days drove many of us physicians from the state. But Florida is my “First Love” and I returned to stay permanently when an opportunity presented itself in 2006. I am therefore now coming up on 14 years total in Florida at the end of 2010. I have been in the U.S. for 35 years so the other 21 years would have been spent elsewhere, mainly in Kansas and Indiana.

I think that the experience of having lived “all across” this great land gives me a first-hand knowledge of the diversity, complexity and strength of our country and helps me to think in terms of the necessity for integration of Florida’s needs and concerns into a larger tapestry. I can also envision the solutions to Floridian problems from a wider perspective. I have lived in: Kansas (a number of times), Indiana, Texas, Montana (east and west of The Rockies) & Michigan (in that context I am a “Yuper”) as well as Florida. I have also lived in London, England; Montreal & Toronto Canada; and of course many places in Jamaica. These experiences have allowed me to be tremendously adaptable and to appreciate, savor and respect many different cultures.

I studied law following my involvement as a Leader in the medical fight against malpractice lawyers in Florida in the late 1980s. I was chairman & founder of the Medical Chiefs’ of Staff Coalition (“COSCO”) supported by over 30 medical hospital staffs. We won some victories but ultimately did not defeat the plaintiff’s bar in this state. As I returned to a safer medical liability environment in Kansas, it occurred to me that I had lacked essential legal knowledge for the fight. Thus the notion that I should become an attorney. I had also defended myself against a nuisance “Med-Mal” suit in the early eighties which went to jury selection. We ultimately settled for a pittance, but in the final meeting the judge said: “Doctor, you did so well in your presentation and at jury selection that if you ever decide to become an attorney, I’ll write you a recommendation.” AND HE DID! (His statement rattled around my mind for years until I finally succumbed). Also, at the time I entered Law-school, the Clintons were trying to take over Health-Care and I thought that The Law might be a good, optional “Second Profession”. It certainly did give me a greater knowledge of the Constitutional History of our nation than I might otherwise have had. Obviously this is one of the best things I could have done to prepare for a career at the Federal Government level.

Finally, with regard to your concerns about reptile pets: I absolutely oppose PETA & the like and I would joyfully stand for you against the wrongful attack on your hobby. You mention Bill Nelson. My “Plan B” if I am not successful in this election cycle, is to achieve enough name recognition and stature in the next couple of years to take him on when his Senate seat comes up for a vote in 2012.

I hope this answers your queries and I do apologize for the length of my response.

Bill

A very good response indeed. Thanks for asking that question. Dr Escoffery was much more responsive than I expected. Hopefully folks will credit him with honesty even if they disagree with him

UPDATE FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL (FreeRepublic EXCLUSIVE !)

I Had 2238 hits on my site yesterday! A record for my campaign! Many thanks to the FReepers who are following my campaign which undoubtedly contributed to this total.

Today we attended an invigorating Christian Conservative event hosted by The Christian Chamber of Apopka, FL and arranged by Chairman Mark Goldstein. It was held in Orlando in the late PM and we arrived to a warm welcome and an absolute Hubbub of patriotic activity around 6 PM. As usual my wife Les set up the best looking table in the room in under five minutes! (She has become very proficient at this!) We Hob-Nobbed for a couple of hours, handed out our literature, chatted with voters & were very positively received. As usual we were accompanied by Tom Jefferson, The Genius of Liberty (pictured below I am holding his book in my hand) AND "Ollie" our GOP Elephant.

Between eight and nine PM I and other candidates mounted the stage and answered a series of of questions. Folks applauded and agreed with my answers. Later the Chairman actually hugged me as he pledged his vote. Many other folks came by our table upon exit to congratulate our Campaign and promise to vote for my candidacy. We were invited by "Momentum Radio" to an interview on their morning show.

Marco Rubio did not show or have anyone speak for him. I chatted with one of his assistants toward the end and bet him that if I lose the Primary, Marco and I will be confronting each other again in 2012 - since there is no way Marco has what it takes to win against Charlie Crist! I bet the guy 5 bucks on the wager (which he accepted) AND sent ANOTHER challenge to for Marco to come out of hiding and debate me!

Thanks,
Bill

This is where you and Dr. Escoffery are way off-base.

You should not be attacking Rubio in this manner - when Rubio wins the primary, the losers of the primary should back him, and they should refrain from this kind of attack during the primary campaign. This kind of campaigning plays right into the hands of the Democrats.

I guess Escoffery wasn't paying attention when Rubio came from a long, long ways down to drive Crist out of the GOP primary.

Your guy gets no credibility with blowhard comments like that one.

The issue here is that Rubio is campaigning against Crist in the PRIMARY when Crist is not even on the ballot. The time to engage Crist is AFTER 24 August. I agree with DR. Escoffery. I don’t think Rubio can beat Crist is the General Election. That is not anything negative against Rubio just an analysis of the facts. Crist was NEVER a threat in a GOP Primary. So going after him in the Primary is just a ploy to try and reign in the conservative vote. IMHO

Get over yourself. Rubio has a commanding lead in the GOP. All your guy can do is take a few lame shots at Rubio up until the primary, when Rubio will win in a landslide. Rubio is PROPERLY looking ahead to November, because that is where the real contest will be. NOT against your guy.

+1...... this was the kind of campaign I was worrying about. One that damages the winner for the election.
$50 to Rubio for that.

If this is what the GOP has been reduced to I can see why we have so many disgruntled conservatives. I refuse to accept the fact that the BEST conservative in the race can’t win a GOP Primary.

So you are saying that its okay to ignore your opponent in a primary so long as the GOP RINO machine is backing you? A sad day in America when the sheeple vote for the least conservative guy in the PRIMARY. Again this is not an attack on Rubio just an election analysis.

Once again, GET OVER YOURSELF. Rubio was out doing the heavy lifting in chasing Crist out of the primary. He’s plenty conservative, he is NO RINO. And your guy has NO CHANCE. He has no numbers. Vote for him if you like, but don’t be tearing down the eventual winner just to satisify his ego in running this race.

Ah, so you are now the spokeman for disgruntled conservatives? Guess what? Rubio is way out in front of you in that regard. And he was NOT the initial choice of the pubbie establishment - Crist was, and Rubio chased him right out of the primary. Yet you have the gall to wallow into this race, which is not even in your state, three weeks before the primary, and then run around calling him a RINO? That's just being a jerk. And BTW, please take me off your ping list while you're at it.

I refuse to accept the fact that the BEST conservative in the race can’t win a GOP Primary.

Denying reality is hardly the sign of a competent campaign advisor, dude.
