This time it is actual clear-cut stealing, not just cushy benefits the General Services Administration inspector general reports that employees of the Federal Protective services used government purchase cards to buy gold coins, flat-screen televisions, and even gym memberships. From the Washington Times:
Twenty-one FPS employees took advantage of an 18-month transition period during which the security agency was moved from the General Services Administration to the Department of Homeland Security to loot GSA resources by purchasing unauthorized goods, according to the GSAs office of inspector general.Investigative documents obtained by The Washington Times through a Freedom of Information Act request said the California-based FPS employees used the government cards to buy, among other things, $17,000 in suits at Macys and the Mens Wearhouse, $15,000 in gold and silver coins, $60,000 in tuition payments and professional memberships, and $8,000 in gym memberships in 2003 and 2004.
The FPS employees, who are responsible for securing federal buildings, also used expense vouchers to get reimbursements for more than $9,000 in clothing, including an $800 tuxedo.
Worse? No one was punished. No one has been prosecuted for the fraud, despite having been twice referred to federal prosecutors. I guess bankers are the only predatory species out there.
Now you Freepers really didn't think the Wee Wee's administration would prosecute his greatest group of supporters, terribly underpaid unionized bureaucrats, for a little thing like theft, did you?
Mind boggling how divisive the so called great uniter is.
Usually when government workers (aka public “servants”) do something illegal they receive “retraining” or in extreme circumstances they retire. Always remember, government workers need big screens too. Ask any government employee and they will tell you how they don’t get paid enough and how hard they work. Such selfless sacrifice for the rest of us. Commendable no?
Well the FedGov doesn’t give a rip what we think. Maybe if someone notifies our Chinese lenders their ears will perk up.
“Some animal are more equal than others”
You can be sure that the gold and silver coins were redeemed for cold hard cash at the nearest local pawn or coin shop.
Thugs loot. Our government has been seized by thugs.
The looting will continue. Bet the rent.
Oh wait, they just stole the rent money!
You know -- someone should write a book paralleling the fall of the Roman Empire and the fall of the U.S. I'm really curious as to which was/is more corrupt.
Where are the republicans? Shouldn’t someone demand an investigation? At least the appearance that someone gives a damn about abiding by the law.
FedGov doesnt give a rip.You have that right In Los Angeles China pays for all the books and marterials to have schools to teach Chinese it’s for international trade reasons wink wink.
Minor point -- the heists occurred on GWB's watch and the article doesn't tell us when the investigation took place.
I think the rome certainly takes the cake (still). Tho what it means is that our next stop is orgies and vomitorums...
Reporters won't win a prize for doing the followup - because NO ONE has ever won a "prize" for making liberals look bad.
Conservatives should start awarding "prizes" to reporters and editors - editors who don't understand the only prize worth having is the respect and trust of their readers...
(In short, it's time for our side to put the cheap bribe on the table along with the liberal press prizes)
Not so minor. The transition began at the beginning of the federal fiscal year in October 2008. Barry was elected the following month. Bush’s watch: 4 months. Barry’s watch: 15 months and counting. At what point did the actual crimes begin?
Article says 2003 and 2004. In 2003, nobody had even heard of Nobama.
Seems like ages ago.
Are you kidding? Obama probably authorized it. These are all government workers who campaigned for him by making calls and sendign out emails during working hours. This is their payback.

Dang right they need some big ol’ flat screens! You don’t expect them to watch porn on some little-bitty screen, do you?
