Would have to be a typo, I reckon 'gas station' - and it looks like they had a jewish name, probably from the german Baecker, changed it to Baker when they arrived in the US.
Apparently we have to wait for a census to be available before we can find Ruth shown as their daugther. I don't expect to find anything unusual there, she has obviously been careful of her privacy.
The Dunhams were in Wichita when the most advanced bombers were being made: B-29s (not B-17s). The B-52 started its production in Wichita and then its production was moved to Seattle.
Interesting how the family moved between these two locations without having connections to Seattle at all.
