I've been here since 2001 (I slightly changed my screenname because the one with an extra letter was clogged with unwanted pinglists), so I understand. But if we can forgive Ronald Reagan for his support for abortion at one time, his signing an amnesty bill (and choosing Rudy Giuliani, who some equally despise) later in his career, we certainly can forgive Palin for campaigning for the guy who helped her become a household word.
McCain has done some things I applaud as well. I prefer J.D. by a mile, but no, I don't hate McCain, and I don't use childish play on the names of former P.O.W.'s, either.
I don’t hate McCain either. It’s possible to oppose someone and what they stand for without hating them. Do I respect his service? Yes, I think I do. Does that mean he deserves a pass for all the many, many times he’s helped Democrats take this country down a path that’s frankly un-American? No, it does not.
If I met McCain tomorrow, I’d be polite. I’d also vote against him in a heartbeat. He doesn’t deserve a bit of our support, not one bit!
As for having some fun with his name, it’s not a sign of hatred or disrespect for his service as it is a play on his political stances. He’s called Juan, because he’ll do everything he can to give amnesty to illegals. He’s McPain, because of the copious amounts of pain he gives conservatives.
I’ll cheer if we retire him in 2010. Sarah Palin notwithstanding, McCain is definitely NOT the type of leader we need in Washington.
