MOBILE, Ala. -- Action movie star Steven Seagal is best known in these parts for having played the cook who thwarted a terrorist plot in the 1992 thriller "Under Siege," which was filmed here aboard the battleship USS Alabama.

But these days he has another assignment.

For almost 20 years, Seagal has been working as a fully commissioned reserve deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana.

His law enforcement work is chronicled in a "Steven Seagal Lawman," an upcoming A&E reality TV show that will premiere on the cable channel at 9 p.m. CST Dec. 2.

A&E is offering Web-savvy fans a chance to see a bit of "Steven Seagal Lawman" tonight. Two online sneak previews of the premiere installment can be seen, at 7 and 7:30 p.m., at www.AETV.com/Seagal.

In addition to the scheduled sneak peeks, the Web site is online now with behind-the-scenes videos and photos, games, cast biographies, an episode guide, production news and a shop offering show-themed merchandise.

That was a long time ago.

Last thing I saw Seagal in, he was really showing his age.

Some of his early movies were just awesome, like that one movie with the Jamaican twin brothers.

Hubby and I loved his stuff. Nobody but nobody could rip off a guys arm, ram it down his throat, then break it, like Seagal. His worst movie was “On Deadly Ground.” What a piece of worthless dreck. Mercy...

The last Seagal flick I saw was a straight to DVD movie called “The Patriot”. The ending was..forget it, the one thing I remember was his co-star, a chick who’s probably the hottest Native American I’ve seen on film.

YouTube has a bunch of early Seagal. Great for getting aggression out, “Best of Steven Seagal 2 (thru 7)”.

Perhaps I could suggest a theme song.

How about "One Note Samba" by Antonio Carlos Jobim?

Seagal is an interesting character. He actually released a blues album (he plays guitar believe it or not) a few years ago and managed to get some big name blues guys to sit in on it. IIRC the critics were ready to pounce all over it, but then when it was released it turned out to be a fairly competent album.

Authorities say Seagal — known for his martial-arts moves in films like "Under Siege", "Marked for Death" and "Exit Wounds" — was a victim of a bid by the Gambino crime family to infiltrate the film industry for profit.
Prosecutors say Seagal, 50, was extorted after a falling-out with his former business partner, Julius Nasso, an alleged Gambino associate.
Wearing an Asian jacket and blue jeans, the actor testified that he was menaced by defendant Anthony "Sonny" Ciccone, who allegedly demanded the actor pay the Gambinos $150,000 for each movie he made with Nasso.
"Look at me when I talk to you," Seagal quoted Ciccone as saying during one shakedown. "We're proud people. ... Work with Jules and we'll split the pie."
He testified he tried to "buy time" by agreeing to reunite with Nasso: "These were people who were not going to let it go."

HMMM....looks like, "he's takin' a (real) bite outa crime." as a
result of the this episode

Seagal was a great friend of late Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee. Some years ago when my daughter was a child, there was a benefit fair for the Florida survivors of hurricane Andrew. It was held on the grounds of the local shopping center near our house and Harry got Seagal to come. I remember that he was very quiet, but very nice and he put himself out to sign autographs and chat up the kids and their parents who were there. I was never a fan of his movies but, as a person, he impressed me that day.

The last movie I saw of his was many years ago. As I recall it attempted to make a strong green message that came across as forced and obnoxious.

The sucker sure has packed on the pounds since then, hasn't he?

Last I saw, Steven Seagal was in a race with Tipper Gore to see who could get the fattest.
Tipper was in the lead but not by much.

Whitney Yellow Robe. Apparently, "The Patriot" is her only screen credit.
