Another Lefty feel-good idea gone horribly awry.
Wow, it turns out that the best way to make non-English speaking students stop feeling isolated and make them part of American society is to make them speak English.
Waiting for La Raza to condemn this as racist in 3...2...
Yes, I'm about to go off on another "politics of emotion" diatribe.
Like most modern education ideas designed to make the kids' lives easier while they're in school, long-term ESL programs have the predictable effect of hurting the kids outside of school.
This is what happens when the showered-up hippies are allowed to create policy with their hearts instead of their brains. Simple logic tells us that your best chance for success in any country is a command of that country's native language.

If someone says it’s “for the children” and they’re not wearing a Kiwanis or Knights of Columbus hat. Walk away.
An excellent rule of thumb.
I feel for the kids who are unable to learn English. They should make every effort to do so and adults around them should help. But we should not make fun of weird names or accents.
Some of my older great aunts with unpronounceable names spoke only Welsh. They were unable to learn more than a few words of English after the family moved from South Wales to Maryland. They really struggled.
My great-grandparents, who became naturalized US citizens, declared that they would all speak only English in the home. My great-grandmother particularly feared the children speaking with a brogue.
Although the younger children spoke only English and had English names and were successful, my grandmother said later they did feel like they lost out by never learning Welsh.
Well, that’s OK with me. We inherited some pretty nice features (red hair and apparently musical talent skipped from great-grandpa clear down to my oldest son ...)so I guess we are OK, having never learned Welsh.
My grandmother’s family taught us to love America for the freedom we have, to love God and to value education.
For the children to a leftist means, the children are going to be paying for it.
