“because Rush and FreeRepublic weren’t around...”

Well said. When I was growing up (60’s and 70’s) we only had 3 channels on TV. Also, IIRC, it never really occurred to most people that the News people would lie to us. If Cronkite, Huntley or Brinkley said it - it was assumed they were telling the truth, and being fair in their reporting.—JM

My father-in-law was onto them...but we all thought he was wrong at the time. When the news would come on he would rant about liars telling lies and calling it news. Called them lying S.O.B.s, said Cronkite was a communist - very colorful rants about the news anchors and idiots that believed them. He was ahead of his time, but then that man was with Patton in WWII and not easily fooled.

"3 channels"

Remember back in the fifties and sixties the alphabets weren't quite so egregiously in the lib camp although they certainly leaned that way. Chet Huntley was a conservative as was Howard K. Smith the anchor at ABC for a number of years. Cronkite completely gave the game away after he retired. About ten years ago he gave an interview where he said global government is a certainty as if he looked forward to it.
