What if you could buy a car for yourself, one for your spouse, and one for each of your kids, and still spend way less than you would on one average new car? Well, if you lived in China you could.
This is not a toy, not a concept car. It is a newly developed single seat car in highly aerodynamic tear-shape road-proven real car. It is ready to be launched as a single-seater for sale in Shanghai in 2010 for a mere RMB 4,000 (US$600)!
Interested? Wait till you learn that it will cruise at 100-120 Km/Hr with an unbelievable 0.99litre/100Km (258 miles/gallon) !!
Impressed? Totally, after you have read all the details below about the hi-tech and space-age material input into this car!!!
The Most Economic Car in the World will be on sale next year
Better than Electric Car 258 miles/gallon: IPO 2010 in Shanghai
From conception to production: 3 years and the company is headquartered in Hamburg , Germany ..
Will be selling for 4000 yuan, equivalent to US$600.. Gas tank capacity = 1.7 gallons Speed = 62 74.6 Miles/hour Fuel efficiency = 258 miles/gallon Travel distance with a full tank = 404 miles
Laz, don't be ridiculous; this is China... It's a motorcycle with a thin layer of lead covered by a mis-formulated plastic that emits toxic fumes when the weather gets warm.
Let me be another to call bu11sh*t.
I wanted to get a motor scooter to commute the five easy miles to my job, but was deterred because the $2000 (used) price plus the exposure to extremes of weather, damage to hair and clothes by driving down a road in traffic, plus the danger of being invisible. This solves those problems. I see people driving “Smart Cars” around the neighborhood and they look like a good alternative to me, if safety isn’t a consideration.
Look, nothing, not even an SUV, is going to save you if a 80,000-pound 18-wheeler comes after you. I figure the risk of getting killed are less with this thing than a cute little pink motor scooter -and- I can stay dry in the rain.
Not some ALL of the smog requirements reduce MPG. Including the ‘boutique’ blends that Pelosi and Bozer got mandated a decade or so ago
I’d pay $600 for a comuter car like this. It’s at least as safe as a motorcycle. I’d be able to go back and forth to work for 2 weeks on a gallon of gas! Where can I get one?
Just think of what the price of oil/petrol will be as demand skyrockets when millions and millions of emerging country citizens from India and China start buying and driving their $2,000 nanos and this $600 model? Our days of fuel gluttony are numbered in America. I dread seeing the fuel prices that the next decade will bring.
That’s how I call it too. I’d like to see some other specifics like engine size and horsepower, plus the car’s weight. Drag coefficient would be nice to know. (How is it so much more efficient than a motorcycle or scooter?)
One other thing: 0.99L/100km is 238 mpg, not 258 mpg as written.
you needed a dealer to tell you that?
Bingo - that was my first thought. Well, not first ever; I believe that was “So THIS is where they’re keeping the food”
Think of it as a motorcycle you can ride in the rain, without having to get wet.
I agree. I would hate being mandated to drive that thing as my primary transportation.
BUT...
That makes a whole lot more sense than driving my 20 MPG Murano or my 18 MPG Jeep less than a mile to the convenience store. Or, anywhere else in town, for that matter.
As BT, this thing would be awesome. It couldn’t be any less safe than riding a motorcycle.
That's my thinking, too... An all-weather, $600, low fuel consumption motorcycle that doesn't tip over. Looks like a good alternative to have available!
HAHAHAHA, when I was in Italy I saw a moped bounce off a SmartCar. That was funny. Actually thats not funny. I think I’ll just keep driving my 1980 4x4 Chevy Diesel.
... and who's flaking paint chips kills your pet cat.
WOB ###... like Wobble... like falling down....
My first thought was "Nice rack."
An airbag costs more than the car!!!!
Pricing is expected to fall somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 ($31,400 to $47,100).
