That mayor is an idiot and the cop is guilty of unlawful search and seizure. I hope the guy gets a good lawyer and starts a recall drive to get rid of the idiot at city hall.

So in other words, you only have rights up until the point when you need them.
That sounds like Barack 0bama’s Amerika.

Governments at every level in our country are beginning to resemble those of Latin America and Africa, and by that I don’t mean anything racial, but the ethos of corrupt third-world authoritarianism.

There is no mention of the race of the driver who was stopped (of course), but, just a guess based on his name, he likely is not Afro-American. If he were, I am wondering how the mayor would feel about this incident? IIRC, the Watts Riots back in the ‘60s were precipitated by a (white) police officer stopping a black motorist, based on probable cause. There was literal hell to pay for that. But a gun-toting white guy, hell yes, suspend his rights, whatever few he might have left in Obomanation.

I've been told ANY time a officer stops you......you are in fact under arrest.

How you handle yourself and YOUR rights after that, is up to you.

This law-abiding, gun-owning motorist needed to read Boston T. Party’s “You & The Police!” before this stop.

One more thing: would the “mayor” say “your rights are suspended” in the case of a white cop stopping black man, pulling him out of the car, and beating him senseless? Are you kidding? Of course not.

It seems to me there is no equality under the law in this jurisdiction, and the “mayor” is in violation of the Constitution, specifically the Second, Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteen Amendments. Time for “regime change”.

On November 7, 2006, Cedric B. Glover, made history as the first African American Mayor of his hometown, Shreveport, LA.
Ahhh, that explains it - another "Chocolate City."

This would better read:
Shreveport Mayor Encourages Police Slayings.

The reason I sat this is because if your rights are suspended when the police stop you there are several immediate consequences:

1 - You do not have the right to trial; you are guilty by virtue of being stopped by the police.
2 - You do not have the right to personal property; the police may steal any property you have.
3 - You do not have the right to life; the police may simply murder you.
4 - You do not have the right to defend yourself from bodily harm or attempt to save your own life; any such attempts are ‘resisting arrest’.

This mayor is an idiot who has no understanding whatsoever of Justice or the American legal-system... the sad thing is though, that this may actually become the new American legal-system. There’s change for you.

As a community organizer, wouldn't he have been one of the first to cry 'Police Brutality' if a confrontation with the police turned even the least bit heated? Of course Hitler probably wasn't too pleased with the efficiency of the Bavarian police force after his putsch and subsequent arrest in 1923

It took listening to the whole conversation to realize that the Mayor’s statement is being taken out of context. He is not saying that all rights are suspended when you are pulled over by a LEO, but he doesnt get around to clarifying what he means until well into part 2 of the YouTube video and only then in a patronizing manner telling the caller that he assumed that the caller had the ‘common sense’ to understand what he meant. The Mayor is obviously not the brightest bulb in the box. Besides being consumed with his own sense of superiority he repeats his points over and over as if expounding on them somehow made them relevant.

Excuse me Mr. Mayor but when you are stopped by a police officer, an officer of the state, i.e. government, by the way, that is when your rights matter most. I believe Miranda settled that decades ago.
