"You mean I missed out on a Zot today?"

You may have, but not this one. This goes back a couple of weeks and more. I'm always looking for next month's home, and one of the several non-absolute criteria (I've broken every one) is that it should be from the previous month.

Only once, I think, have I used a same-day Zot (and it may have been a day-before Zot). I don't like those because it's hard to get all the links correct when the destination post number keeps changing.

Maybe they called it mead, or grog.

“How do you say ‘beer’ in Latin?”

“cerevisia” - compare Spanish “cerveza” and French “cervoise.”

Close, but it's not right. "Ego" is not necessary here. You could do most of it with:

Veni, posteri, (? eram zotted ?)
My Latin-English dictionary is at work. Why it's at work I don't know, except maybe to keep the "Teach Yourself Gaelic" book company on the bookshelf. I rarely have visitors in my office so it's not there for show. All I know is that it's been there since about, oh, 1995 (before I started Gaelic class) and hasn't been opened anytime since 2000.

I barely remember the Latin I learned in 1977.

It's kind of like speaking Conservative.

No one understands you anyway.
;-)

Have a good night.

"Back in March we did Finnish, and I wound up in Helsinki. Mrs. Sionnsar would like to see Rome again (and show it to me for the first time), so this month we're doing Latin."

Something you may not be considering; in modern-day Rome, they don't typically speak Latin.

So if you get to go somewhere as a result of having selected this thread, it could be a trip through time.

This may not be an entirely bad thing. If you do find yourself in ancient Rome, please deposit five dollars or so in an interest-bearing account for me. I'll pay you back next month.

Seems good. But the tradition of drinking the local beers is getting old, esp. when revisiting the same locales over again. I think a change is called for — next time I visit Finland I will try the local wines!

Yeah, we get our hands slapped if we call it “swine”.

It’s “H1N1”. Just ask Janet.

"It’s “H1N1”. Just ask Janet."

How's that pronounced? (Not "Heinie", I hope!)

Well, I'm glad they didn't decide to call it the German flu.
