BHO and I agree: D.C. Drivers are Wimps!
Clearly Nebulous ^ | January 28, 2009 | Colette Moran

"Can I make a comment that is unrelated to the economy very quickly?" the new president told reporters at a gathering with business leaders. "And it has to do with Washington. My children's school was canceled today. Because of, what? Some ice?"

For once, I can agree with Obama.

I'm from Chicago, too, and the 6 or 7 winters I have spent here in the D.C. area, I have been amazed at how a little bit of snow or ice shuts this place down.

But doesn't that make me and Obama statists or climatists or some other -ists? We just don't understand.

We just don't understand what it's like to grow up in an area that doesn't have the great abundance of plows and road salt like they do in upstate Illinois.

We just don't understand the barriers that people of this region have had to overcome in getting a sufficient education to make their way along a snowy or icy roadway.

We just don't understand how hard it is to pull one's self out of a ditch when they were unable to successfully navigate a treacherous back street.

We just don't understand how they've suffered the absence of role models who can steer them in the right direction when their rear wheels start fish-tailing in the slush.

Only when a D.C.-area driver wins the Indy 500 in a snowstorm will the real healing begin.

Sorry but whether true or not, this is a stupid thing to say. DC and other places may be over cautious but Obama gives the impression that there should never be snow day cancellations which is simply dumb.

Chicago and other urban areas don't have the hills and dangerous curves such as NH or VT or Maine or...etc. It's easy to poo poo all the non-urban school districts that have more dangerous terrain and longer bus routes as opposed to urban areas, like Chicago, where a lot of 90 degree turns on relatively flat terrain are a safer bet.

I can't wait to see the reaction of the locals bacause Obama gave a broad-faced slap to his Peeps.

I guess people move south just to beat their chests over snow days? Kinda stupid. Just embrace the local custom and enjoy an unexpected day off.

Besides, nobody, and I do mean nobody, can drive on black ice. You’d have to have cleated chains or studded tires to even keep the vehicle remotely under control. You can’t even remain stopped on an incline on black ice, the vehicle will slide downhill.

Oh those denizens of Illinois are so tough but they obviously can't take being laughed at!

Gee — isn’t anyone going to comment on the satirical aspect?

Didn’t anyone chuckle at the notion of how “political correctness” could be stretched to apply to almost anything?
