MSM: We're not biased, but the perception of bias is a problem.

Newspapers are losing readers, some have gone out of business, the NY Times is essentially bankrupt, and the solons at the media are beginning to notice that one of their problems is that at least half the country hates them. They are the only major industry that actually insults its customers and asks them to pay for the pleasure.

Like the sclerotic leaders of the Soviet Union, some are beginning to pay heed, but they are still in denial. From Extreme Mortman: Tom Rosenstiel – “a former political reporter who directs the Project for Excellence in Journalism:” “The perception of liberal bias is a problem by itself for the news media. It’s not okay to dismiss it. Conservatives who think the press is deliberately trying to help Democrats are wrong. But conservatives are right that journalism has too many liberals and not enough conservatives. It’s inconceivable that that is irrelevant.”

How to respond to so much denial packed into so little space?

My favorite part is the howler about how the media will oppose Obama once he is sworn in.

This reminds of a premise where some people who realize an increase in earnings, too soon begin to think that they are worth it (and thus more).

Similarly, I’ve wondered if the media believes that since so many people read, watch or listen to them, that they, the media, think they are smart and all knowing.

Eh, maybe the same could be said for politicians too.

Newspapers are losing readers, some have gone out of business, the NY Times is essentially bankrupt...

Is this old news about the NYT's spiritual and moral bankruptcy, or something new and they are fiscally bankrupt as they so richly deserve? Could it be that, to paraphrase Obama's spiritual guide, the media's chickens have come home to roost? I'm going to enjoy this!

In the event that The One falls short of expectations, as is almost guaranteed, the distrust of biased reporting is likely to spread from the conservatives to moderates. Throw in the fact that liberals are moving away from such plebeian and environmentally incorrect options are hard copy newspapers, and the New York Times is in for the economic CHANGE that honest readers everywhere have come to HOPE for.

The MSM are not “biased”.

They are political organizations that actually WORK for the DNC.

They are paid to spread leftwing propaganda.

There are several aspects of the newspaper business that need reform.

To start with, there is only a slot for one national newspaper, the rather generic USA Today. It is much like the continental breakfast served in hotels around the world. Standardized, bland, and un-threatening. Its function is not information, but just something to stare at instead of the other diners.

Almost all other newspapers need to be either local papers or specialty papers. Local implies local ownership, not being part of a newspaper group of several cities and States.

Technology has changed how newspapers can give their readers news that either consolidates information from elsewhere faster than they could find it by surfing the Internet, or is so unique it would be hard to find elsewhere. That is, it has to give readers something they cannot easily get on the Internet.

The wire services are dying, and need to be replaced by cooperatives of information media. To get news that you want, you have to provide news that others want. And the news that you provide is rated for quality by others. It can be done through a subscription website, no need to spend millions of dollars, and it is market driven.

College journalism schools are dinosaurs. The future is reporters, not journalists. A college degree only helps if it is a subject that is useful. And the vast majority of things they write about are local.

Conservatives who think the press is deliberately trying to help Democrats are wrong.

LOL! Obviously, the "press" isn't paying attention. They haven't figured out what occurred on November 4th. If the "press" had been doing their job and telling the truth, Baracko would have had his ass handed to him by McCain/Palin and the Republicans would be running the House and Senate again.

Is the NY Times Bankrupt?

Click on the link for the full discusiion, but ... "The Silicon Alley Insider has been digging through the company’s latest SEC filings to find that the Times owes its creditors a huge $400 million payment next May, but it only has $46 million in cash on hand with six bleak months to go."

We report, you decide.

My local paper has turned completely left of center over the past 10 years. I live in a conservative area. About a year and a half ago, they published an article saying they were joining a network of newspapers to affect change.

Maybe we should start a list of all left of center local news publications. Expose them now.
