If my renewed license will hurry the hell up and get here in the mail i’m thinking of getting my first gun, a mossberg persuader shotgun, and a .38 special rossi. I think that should do the trick. I just know this damn license aint going to arrive in time before election night, so I’ll probably just have to keep doing pushups, hitting the bag, and getting skilled with kitchen knives and baseball bats, just to be safe.
Just bought a Ruger LCP thursday, what’s the recall for?
Honestly, I don’t know..I am thinking it was a recoil spring problem.
He says great - you should have money left over.
Yes, that’s it. The M4 doesn’t come in a 7.62 - you would have to go with a Springfield Armory M1-A family - SOCOM or Scout rifle. (none of this means anything to me - just repeating what he says.)
NATO rounds are loaded to higher pressure than SAAMI, and may also be longer than the SAAMI specification allows for the chamber.
You can safely load and fire .223 Remington (SAAMI spec) rounds in a 5.56mm NATO chamber. Loading and firing NATO rounds in a .223 Remington (SAAMI spec) chamber can be hazardous.
If you're getting an AR pattern rifle, make sure it has a NATO chamber.
I’ve heard there are upper receivers for M4s chambered for 7.62. I haven’t done much in the way of research. I know that H&K makes a rifle called the M417 (the 5.56 version is the M416) that is chambered for 7.62.
Hubby asks “Why add another caliber when you already have ammunition magasines for .223/5.56mm? Besides, .223 is a great self-defense caliber and the M4 is a sweet, tight, fast little package.” (his words, not mine...) p.s. .30 caliber means bigger weapon that needs more room and weighs more - carries less bullets.
Well, same reason why folks go with .45 rather than a 9mm for a pistol. Less ammo, more weight, but better stopping power, longer range, etc. Truth be told, I probably will just stick with 5.56 since I do have the mags, and it’s what I’m trained on and used to. The 7.62 thing is something I keep threatening to do, but I probably won’t.
What did it for me was the factory standard two stage match trigger.
IMO they're about the best deal in the AR market right now.

DPMS, Armalight, RRA, and a few others are trying to compete for the ".30 is the only 'real' caliber" crowds attention. They have excellent rifles chambers for standard .308/7.62x51 that are MOA or better depending on barrel length. Most price out right around $1200 and are worth it.
Most M1A1's or SOCOM II's start at around $1700 and 20-round mags for 'em are easily double the $14 price tag on a 30-round .223 mag.
Wrong. I carried both the M14 and M16 in the Marines. Not too many walls where I was in Nam and I did not like humping the weight of the 14 or the ammo.
Nice .... unless you're a lefty. Then you're hosed. (No need for hot brass in my eye) ;)
Wrong, it has a charging handle on both sides and throws the brass away (slightly forward and down) from a lefty. My left eye dominant son is going to get to shoot it next weekend, will keep you posted.
Really now? Looking at the pics showed what looked like an ejection port on the right side next to the cheekpiece.
Good luck for your son's shooting and pls keep me posted. I'd love a lefty bullpup 308 calibre rifle.
I use a .308 myself. The many records it holds is the reason I have it. The poster was talking about .223 ammo, so I thought he may have been wanting something with less recoil. I love the 25-06 for small game and varmint control.
I’d rather use a .30 cal round for self defense than anything else. Plenty of knockdown power at longer ranges. I have several buddies on the State Marksmanship team for the Texas National Guard. They have begged me to join, but my workload is too much.
