Going to Gun Show tomorrow (suggestions?)
11-1-08

I am going to the gun show tomorrow, and I need a rifle. I am thinking something that uses .223 ammunition.

Suggestions?

Yeah, look at bigger calibers.

AR-15.

I like Rock River personally, but there are so many good choices, you can’t go wrong (other than Blackthorne maybe).

Sporters, 7.62x39. Get them while they are still legal.

Firearms are tools...what do you plan on using it for? Firearms are tools, generally designed for specific purposes. Using a .223 for bear hunting or concealed carry needs is a bit like trying to use a saw to hammer a nail.

That’s a good question.

It’s one I never want to have to use. I will not spend a lot of time shooting it (too much $$$). It’s for 2nd Amendment purposes.

My husband suggests a Bushmaster. An AT-4 carbine with a flash supressor. ‘Course, he’s not sure what your buget is...

A nice WW2 British Enfield .303 shouldn’t run to much, around $200.00 Pretty cheap to shoot and you’d have a nice piece of history.

If Obama and his thugs take over the white house, I’d probably consider just going with a 50-cal machine gun.

Good thread, I don’t have a rifle and this will educate me too.

I would buy an AR in 308 not 223.

This works very nicely - if you can find one...

"It’s one I never want to have to use. I will not spend a lot of time shooting it (too much $$$)."

Given those circumstances, I would look at something in the Kalishnikov family (AK variants). The ammo is fairly easy to get, as are after market accessories, and operator maintenance is a bit easier than the AR series. Speaking in general terms it's not going to be as accurate as an AR, but the larger caliber should be a better defensive round. If you are in an urban area where overpenetration might be a problem, and you most likely wouldn't need to shoot at distances over more than 20-30 yards, you might want to opt for a good 20 guage shotgun (12 if you'd plan on a little more time at the range to familiarize yourself with it.)

Just some thoughts.

Yeah I guess there are a lot of things to consider...It would have to be, obviously, very reliable.

I guess I can spend up to about $800-$1000.

Does he mean M4? That's what I'm looking at getting. Thinking 5.56mm, but I may go for a 7.62 instead (I already have some mags for 5.56...).

A few brave souls have “converted” (if you can call it that at that point) AR-15s to 30-06.

Now THAT would be a great gun for any task (including refusing the advances of any civilian national thug security force).

Recommendations for "urban target practice"?
