In a word no,Indonesia does not allow duel citizenship,in order for him to be an Indonesian citizen his American status was rescinded or never existed at all.

The only way Obama could renounce his citizenship in the eyes of the US would be if he did so himself, which means it would have to be when he was of the age of consent. Indonesia doesn't have the power to take US citizenship away from an American. Would Indonesia require proof from the US embassy that he formally renounced US citizenship before granting Indonesian citizenship, or would they simply not recognize his US citizenship once they made him an Indonesian citizen? If it's the former then to make an issue of it somneone will have to find the formal renouncement of citizenship down at the State Dept. If it's the latter, under US law he would still be American. IMHO

It's the former, anyone who is granted Indonesian citizenship must have any former ties renounced in writing by that individuals state department. So either it was renounced or it never existed at that time. When a childs parent does this the person in question must apply for reinstatement when they are 21 years of age.
