Yeah! That one got my attention too.
There is an incorrect perception that the US military has always had the best equipment, tactics, etc. This is not true. The shocking losses of 2 world wars taught us the value of investing in pricey equipment & (even more expensive) realistic training. The comparison demonstrates the wisdom of the post-WW2 philosophy.
You go to journalism school or get a "teaching" degree if you can't do anything productive and want a "safe" alternative.
To bad about the journalist career path..hahahahahahaha... guess they'll all go back to J-school as professors emeritus and corrupt another generation of slackers.
Not quite correct.
Korea was fought with the same weapons as WWII with a couple of exceptions (air). Vietnam was not that great for training. Draftees only do two years. By the time you train them up and they do their one year in VM, it was time to get out. Just when you need them most for instructor duty to reset the training system.
The improvements have been since we went to a volunteer force and the idea of 2 year enlistments was scrapped for the most part. Contracts now are for 8 years with at least 4 active, usually 6 for technical fields...
As for equipment, we succeed despite buying from the losest bidder...
