My brother died yesterday
Self

Posted on 12/24/2007 2:32:06 PM PST by CalvaryJohn

I just got a phone call and found out my brother died yesterday. He and I were not speaking, as he had disowned me and sued me over some pretty silly stuff. I feel empty and ripped off. Everytime I turn around, Death stalks my family. I am tired and unable to feel much of anything. I haven't been very faithful to Our Heavenly Father lately, but I guess I could use some prayers. Thanks, and may your Christmas be better than mine.

Praying for you. Please see a counselor, minister or physician about your depression. Let me know if you need anything.

I pray for you. Yes, please seek some counseling and/or talk to some close friends. Or if you go to church or whatever, talk to them. Don’t allow yourself to become isolated and depressed. You need to talk this out. Your life is worth living!

I’m wishing you the best CalvaryJohn. Sometimes life comes at us hard like that. If you have not already done so, forgive your brother. And seek peace with God as only He can truly grant peace.

Prayers for you and your brother. It’s not your fault that he died, but it’s hard when somebody dies while there are still unresolved issues and the living left behind now have no chance to get these things straightened out.

Just pray God to forgive you for whatever you feel your part in it might have been (go to confession if you’re Catholic), and then thank God for the gift of His Son, because this will make all your life new again. Tomorrow is Christmas Day, and whatever was in the past, tomorrow is the day to thank God and start out fresh again, knowing that God loved you enough to send His Son for you - and your brother. So it’s all taken care of, and you just have to hand it over to Our Lord.

Dear Lord Jesus,
We pray for your comfort and strength for John. We pray you touch him with your love and peace over this terrible loss. We pray you heal his guilt over this loss and you will cover him with your loving embrace.

In Jesus Holy Name
Amen

CalvaryJohn, Several years ago I disowned my brother. A few months later he was murdered. I regret that I wasn’t able to suck it up and make up with him. He was an imperfect man, as am I.

I do what I can to honor his memory, in spite of the differences we had.

I would second the suggestion to find someone that you can confide in. Find peace within yourself and you’ll find peace with your brother.

God bless you and Merry Christmas.

CalvaryJohn feel free to FReepmail me. I’m going to work right now (12 hour shifts) but if you need someone to talk to I will listen. My schedule is spotty but I will respond. You need to talk to someone because depression is a killer.

Ditto the advice on checking in with a moderately sane clergydude or counselor or somesuch.

It is simply grievous to lose a brother, and a brother from whom one is estranged is doubly grievous. My heat goes out to you and to those who love him.

I know what it’s like to have pride get in your way and then have to regret it later. There was blame to go around. I do forgive him, and I hope a loving God will embrace him. I have as many faults as he did, in God’s eyes.
And thank you everyone. Tears are falling.

CalvaryJohn,

It sounds like you have had to endure a lot of sadness recently. As other Freepers have recommended, counciling can sometimes help if you can afford. At any rate my prayers will be with you this holiday period and I am sure many other Freepers will also be praying for you. Remember that a broken heart is a simple thing to repair for a God who created a universe. Take care.

I haven't been very faithful to Our Heavenly Father lately, but I guess I could use some prayers.

I'm reminded of a quote...

We cannot seek health, wealth, learning justice or kindness in general. Action is always specific, concrete, individualized, unique.

The process of becoming faithful to Our Heavenly Father again is doing something. Only you can know what that something is.
