Michael Savage, Freedom Of Speech Award: NO SHOW (Savage Skips Own Award Ceremony)
RadioEqualizer ^ | 6/13/07 | Brian Maloney

*** First In A Series Of Reports From The New Media Seminar In New York City ***

What would it take to get Michael Savage to come out of his shell?

Again underscoring his ultra- reclusive nature, the "Savage Nation" host unexpectedly failed to appear at a ceremony where he was to pick up an industry honor.

Selected to receive this year's Freedom Of Speech Award at the New Media Seminar held over the weekend in New York City, Savage instead substituted a hastily- made YouTube- style home video.

Overseen by Talkers Magazine, the event provides an annual gathering place for talk show hosts, programmers and syndicators. While Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, Lars Larson, Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, Rusty Humphries, Michael Medved, G Gordon Liddy, Jerry Doyle and many others made the trip, Savage's failure to appear was not announced ahead of the ceremony.

His non- appearance must have been a disappointment for Talkers publisher Michael Harrison, who generally uses the award presentation to generate publicity for his magazine and seminar.

As for the video (which your Radio Equalizer is praying will soon reach YouTube), it was so bad that it was actually good. While a few obvious non- fans in the audience snickered, Savage actually came across in a friendly, conversational style rarely heard on his radio show these days.

Filmed from his boat Patriot in an undisclosed Marin County location, Savage rattled off a number of points in rapid- fire style. Occasionally during the crudely- edited production, he appeared in front of his own "Mike's Bar", which appeared to be elsewhere on his property.

The syndicated radio host railed against Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, calling them "failed radio hosts" and "frauds", while asserting that liberals have almost- universal control over the world's ideas and images, with talk radio as one of the rare exceptions.

Also warning against a possible reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, which would regulate the content of talk radio, Savage said that it merely represents "censorship with a fancy name and has no place in America."

Comparing Fairness Doctrine proposals by Democrats to Venezuelan thug Hugo Chavez's recent shutdown of an opposition television network, Savage said he considers radio broadcasting here to exist in a "perilous state" that may not be that much more free than in the South American state.

While it's not clear what kept Savage away from the event, his video presentation certainly kept the audience entertained, whether they were fans or not.

Note that a reply to the blog mentions that Savage is railing against C-SPAN for not showing his “appearance”, but apparently he doesn’t say his “appearance” was via video
and not in person—and that he’s selling $20 DVDs for
those who want to see the video...I agree with what Savage
was saying, judging by what Maloney reported (such as the
view on the Fairness Doctrine) but the way MS went about
it...hmm...

So CSPAN doesn’t show videos?

Actually they may...I have seen shows on there which show
a lecture by someone about political history (in front of
an audience) and they’ll cut to a video of an old Presidential
campaign ad...at first the camera panning to the screen
and then what was on the screen actually being put on air
directly...

Micheal Savage is not even his real name. His name is Michael Weiner. Michael Savage is a liberal trojan horse. Savage helped Democrats win the election in 2006 partly by repeatedly bashing Bush, bashing republicans, and by calling for Hastert's resignation. They call him an ultra conservative? LOL LOL. A Hippy , long time communist who hung out with communists from San Francisco who graduated from Berkely, is for more gun control, for increasing mininimum wage and donated money to ultra liberal pro-immigrant Democrat Jerry Brown over a conservative running against Brown is no conservative.

Just one of my points showing Savage is a liberal was that I said Savage was for more gun legislation/more gun control . I heard him say that.: And so did the guys at this gun web site. this is some guy posting on that site talking about Savage.

"His statements were that if teachers and students had been armed they would have only been able to shoot themselves in their own feet and would not have stopped the murderer. Additionally he started up on the fact the murderer was able to legally purchase a firearm and that there need to be "more laws". He sounds like a CNN anchor"

Here is a link where someone else has heard Savage is for the minimum wage

I didn't donate to liberal Democrat Jerry brown like Savage did . Jerry brown is for increasing illegal immigration. Savage is a Berkley, liberal hack: Savage Backs pro-immigrant liberal Jerry Brown

As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, Savage is a top contributor to Brown’s campaign against conservative state senator Chuck Poochigian. His gift of $5,600, the maximum allowable under state law, was merited, Savage told the Chronicle after being outed. Why? Because “You have to make choices in an imperfect world.

Why would a conservative back a liberal over a conservative? Because Savage is a liberal putting on an act to make money. Savage Backs Democrat Brown link 2

I am really for building a fence and stopping illegal immigration. I don't care about Bush. I just care about stopping Democrats/liberalism/socialism and stopping illegal immigration. Amnesty must be stopped. Democrats are trying to bring to the U.S.A 200 million poor 3rd world democrat voters so that they can turn the U.S.A into socialist Venezuela or Cuba. I didn't donate to liberal Democrat Jerry brown like Savage did . Jerry brown is for increasing illegal immigration. Savage is a Berkley, liberal hack: Savage Backs pro-immigrant liberal Jerry Brown

This latest Amnesty bill was written by Democrat Ted Kennedy. Practically every democrat congressman is for this Amnesty bill because they will get 20 million new democrat voters. Democrats control congress . but Savage blames the GOP.

This latest horrible Amnesty bill was written by Democrat Ted Kennedy. DEMOCRAT Ted Kennedy has been behind every Amnesty bill and every bill that has increased immigration from the 3rd world based on family ties since 1965. Before 1965 almost all immigrants to the U.S were from Europe. And they became Americanized. Now after Ted Kennedy and his bills since 1965 we have had an invasion of 3rd world poor, socialist, uneducated democrat voters. That Savage don't REPEATEDLY make this point shows that Savage is just trying to blame the GOP.

Savage called for the resignation of Dennis Hastert during the height of election and the liberal media Foley fiasco. This showed me Savage's true liberal colors . Savage was trying to throw the election to the Democrats. and looks like he succeeded. He still has conservatives mad at Republicans and not Democrats even though Democrats are in control of Congress and it was Republicans who stopped this Amnesty last year. A conservative knowing that he has the 3rd most influential radio show would not call for the resignation of the Republican Speaker of the House at the height of the election. If Hastert would have resigned then the Democrats would have won even bigger. Plus Hastert didn't do anything wrong but savage still called for his resignation. it was on obvious attempt by a liberal hack to help Democrats win the election. and I heard him say that. Also other FreeRepublic posters like Checkers who I linked to also heard Savage say that.

Also Savage has generalized the GOP. And he has labeled them as big spenders when 84% of spending is mandatory if you include military spending. why doesn't savage mention that? Savage donated money to liberal democrat Jerry Brown who is for illegals. Instead of you savage supporters spinning for a liberal cult leader like Savage, why don't you spin for America, for freedom, for conservatism, and against Democrats/socialism and against Amnesty?

.Savage is the one who has power to affect elections and he did . He helped Democrats gain power and now Democrats are trying to pass Amnesty for 20 million illegals something that the Republicans Savage tears apart didn't pass in 12 years they were in control. You keep saying that what i say is lies and calling me names. I did put up several links from different web sites backing up my allegations against Savage. And in my previous posts i have links to the rest of the points (mostly links to other freepers who have can back up what I said). Still I don't know if i have time to put up links to every little point I make to fight against your tactics of calling me a liar and a bush bot and just insinuating that every thing i say is wrong and silly. I don't know if i want to put up with that either as i like to engage in fair debate not that it hurts my feelings or anything. what's it to you anyway? do you care that Savage helped Democrats get into power? that is an undeniable fact. Savage bashed the GOP so relentlessly during the election year that Savage helped Democrats get into power.

Savage’s donation to Brown is one thing I can’t explain or excuse, but the rest of your post is just opinion: yours, and those from the other sites you provide links to.

Yes, he has spoken in favour of raising the min. wage.

Savage does not blame the GOP for the amnesty plan, he blames Bush.

You really twisted logic to explain the Foley affair into Savage helping the dems in ‘06: it’s pretty funny.

Savage has stated his support for the 2nd amendment many times.

Savage has staked his reputation on fighting illegal immigration more than anything else, so if you think he wanted the dems to come to power to push through amnesty, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I don’t agree with everything he says , in fact I have strong disagreements with some of what he says, but making claims about him being a communist et.al., is just silly.

Savage has stated his support for the 2nd amendment many times.

That’s wrong I heard savage (”Michael Weiner”) say that “we need more gun laws” . if you look on free-republic or on the net you will see others heard him say that too. I put up just one link.
If Weiner defended the 2nd amendment then he is lying because I heard it say the opposite. He lets his true feelings slip once in a while .so you think people never lie. .You have never put on an act to hide your true self ,or lied? I can see that Weiner is acting. Yes it is a showman and a good actor but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a liberal Trojan horse as i showed in my post.

you admit he is for raising the minimum wage . that is liberal position . he wants the government to control the economy and tell businesses what to do . he is a liberal . a conservative doesn’t take that position. I didn't spin anything . I called it as I saw it. I saw Savage calling for Hastert's resignation during the peak of the election. There was no proof Hastert had done anything wrong in anything or the Foley lib media created fiasco. But why would an influential radio host call for the GOP speaker of house Resignation? Only one reason so that Democrats would be guaranteed of winning the election.

sorry but conservatives are not for gun control, raising the minimum wage, against capitalism, and call for the resignation of the Republican speaker of the house for no reason other than to help Democrats win an important election.

I can't change your mind and you can't change my mind so what's the point? It kinda depresses me to talk about this liberal Savage. I can't get myselfe to listen to this creature anymore . cause i know what he is doing. If I were listening to him I'd have even more ammunition against him.

Thank you .

I know there are others like you and me who see through Savage’s act.

Savage thinks he can fool conservatives. But he can’t fool some of us.He is laughing at those he fools ,making millions off of them and he even puts his audience and Americans down on his show.

Savage has even put Americans down calling them sheeple and other things. face it this cretin is an Anti-American liberal. Savage even puts his audience down while making millions of them. he is laughing at his audience and laughing at you. And he is laughing all the way to the bank. that is one evil con man.

Did he say he was against the 2nd amendment? No.

Are some conservatives for min. wage? Yes. (I am not)

Did he say Hastert should resign? Yes.Why? Because he was ineffectual. (in his opinion)

sorry but conservatives are not for gun control, raising the minimum wage, against capitalism, and call for the resignation of the Republican speaker of the house for no reason other than to help Democrats win an important election.

Look, that's your interpretation and I accept it. I just don't agree with all of it. Mike does contradict himself at times but then again, I don't think I take it as seriously as you seem to do.

Savage has even put Americans down calling them sheeple and other things. face it this cretin is an Anti-American liberal. Savage even puts his audience down while making millions of them. he is laughing at his audience and laughing at you. And he is laughing all the way to the bank. that is one evil con man.

I have heard other talk show hosts denigrate his audience as well. You have to be a baby to take it seriously. Whoa, I think calling him anti-American is over the line.

Anyway, we can agree to disagree, my friend.
