More Saddam betrayal

A few weeks ago Sammi provided a translation of an IIS agents notebook I subtitled "Both in one trench" after a phrase used by an Iraqi official (believed to be Saddam's VP of Iraq) meeting with a Pakistani cleric meeting to discuss a secret relationship between Iraq and the Taliban:

We already believe that there are no points of disagreement between us and the Taliban because we are both in one trench facing the world’s oppression.....For the future we think that we will arrange relations between us, as an intelligence service, and them in a SECRET (translator’s emphasis) way to establish the strong base of this relation.

One of the names mentioned in the captured notebook is Ahmad Al Kilani. This name comes up again in a new translation Sammi provides concerning Iraq assistance to Afghanistan opposition groups that ousted the Soviets and then vied for power until the Taliban took Kabul. The new document is about money transfers to Ahmad Kilani in the late 80's early 90's.

The document does demonstrate that the Iraqis were more involved with Afghani affairs than the MSM would have us believe. Oddly enough, as the U.S. was supporting Afghan resistance to defeat the Soviets, so was Saddam. The big difference is that the USSR was the United States enemy. The USSR was Saddam's benefactor. And in return, Saddam paid Afghani resistance fighters to kill Russian soldiers. With friends like Saddam.... http://rayrobison.typepad.com/ray_robison/2006/04/more_saddam_bet.html
