Kathy Ireland, Supermodel
While appearing on the TV show Politically Incorrect, Kathy Ireland participated in a debate about abortion "rights" and whether or not Florida should approve "Choose Life" license plates. Kathy is against abortion and she defended babies in the womb by saying: "I was once pro-choice and the thing that changed my mind was, I read my husband's biology books, medical books, and what I learned ... At the moment of conception, a life starts. And this life has its own unique set of DNA, which contains a blueprint for the whole genetic makeup. The sex is determined. We know there's a life because it's growing and changing."
In October 2002, Kathy Ireland made a compelling argument against abortion on the Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes political debate show. Alan Colmes described Ireland's opinions as religious, but Ireland said that her views on abortion do not stem from faith. She asserted that even atheists could realize that abortion is wrong. Kathy told Alan that her belief is founded in science and technology, which she says, "has come a long way since Roe vs. Wade."
Ireland also defended her values as being pro-women, stating, "We need to support these women who are in crisis pregnancy situations." She claimed that because scientific evidence proves that abortion is murder, "I have no choice but to defend the most vulnerable among us."
Kate Mulgrew, Actress
The American Feminist magazine's Winter 2000-2001 issue spotlighted 15 women who were active in the pro-life arena. Kate Mulgrew, best known for her role as Capt. Kathryn Janeway on the television series, "Star Trek: Voyager," describes herself in the article as a liberal Democrat who opposes both abortion and capital punishment.
"Abortion does not compute with my philosophy," said Kate, who became pregnant at an early age and gave her baby girl up for adoption. In 1998 she was reunited with her daughter and now has sons. "I have to be frank about my experience," she said. "I survived it. Women often don't believe that they can survive nine months of pregnancy and place the child with an adoptive family."
Patricia Heaton, Actress
Co-star of Everybody Loves Raymond, Patricia Heaton serves as the Honorary Chair of Feminists for Life. Through this pro-women interest group, Patricia works to inform people that "Every 36 seconds in America a women lays her body down, forced to choose abortion out of a lack of practical resources and emotional support. Abortion is a reflection that society has failed women."
"Having and raising children is doing something with your life! ... And I have to say that having your kids is one of the greatest things you can do."
During Heaton's acceptance speech for the Emmy award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series in 2000, she thanked "my mother for letting me out, because life is really amazing."
She told The American Feminist magazine (Winter 2000-2001) that she believes it is better to "make the system conform to what is best for you and your baby instead of making the baby go away to conform to what is best for the system."
Naomi Judd, Country Singer
In an appearance on the Sally Jesse Raphael show on March 6, 1998, Naomi explained that when she became pregnant as an unwed teenager, abortion was "not an option for me."
Having "worked as a labor and delivery nurse ... I've seen ultrasounds ... you know that those babies are real." She reminded the audience that if she had had an abortion, the world would have been deprived of the great singing talent of her daughter and fellow performer, Wynonna Judd. Britney Spears, Singer
In an interview in Young Miss magazine dated September 2000, Britney said: "My main goal is to wait until I'm married to have sex. I would never, personally, be able to (have an abortion), because down the road it would always haunt me." (Source: Young Miss magazine, September 2000)
Mel Gibson, Actor
On a 1990 Barbara Walters Special, actor Mel Gibson stated his opposition to birth control, infidelity and abortion.
"God is the only One who knows how many children we should have, and we should be ready to accept them. One can't decide for oneself who comes into this world and who doesn't. That decision doesn't belong to us."
In a land full of scandals and month-long marriages, Mel has been married to his wife Robyn for 23 years, and they have seven children together.
In the magazine entitled Time Pacific dated January 22, 2001, Jess Cagle writes, "Asked if his views on abortion and divorce have softened, he [Mel Gibson] says, 'No, they haven't changed much. People call me Attila the Hun and all this stuff, but it's how I attempt to live my life. There are basically 10 rules, and they work if you adhere to them. Love thy neighbor-that's a good societal plan.'"
Kim Alexis, Supermodel:
"I think that our whole country needs to have more love and compassion for all children. All life is valuable and a gift from God. Pregnancy is not something that "just happens." Pregnancy is a gift from God. I think it is God telling us "OK, you are responsible enough to raise this new young life that I, God, am going to give you." Abortion is wrong to start with, but in addition, you don't know who or what you are aborting ... a Joan of Arc, a Mother Teresa or even a pope."

Madonna is not pro-life; however, she did say the following after looking at an ultrasound of her daughter Lourdes: "I was stunned when I saw on the ultrasound a tiny, living creature spinning around in my womb. Tap-dancing, I think. Waving its tiny arms around and trying to suck its thumb. I could have sworn I heard it laughing." (Source: WorldMagazine, December 1996)
Ben Stein, Actor & Host of "Win Ben Stein's Money":
"Since 1973, when the United States Supreme Court, with no precedent before it at all, decided that it was not constitutionally permissible for states to restrict abortions for most women, there have been an estimated 37 million or more abortions performed on United States women and their babies.
Every single one of these abortions violently ended the life of an American baby, as I see it. Last year, the Golden Age year of 1997, saw abortion "clinics" and hospitals end the lives of about 1.4 million American babies.
Now, I want to be the first to admit that not everyone sees abortion as the ending of a life. There are probably some people who still see a baby in the womb as unfeeling tissue, like a mole or subcutaneous fat. They see the baby in the sonogram looking like a baby and they don't believe it's a baby. They see the baby reacting to a needle and moving away from it and they don't think it's a life. They know that a baby in the womb relaxes when she or he hears soothing music and they don't think there's a baby there. There are people who know that babies look just like postpartum babies very soon after conception, when they are still in the womb, and have a strong sense of pain, but those people can still call an abortion something other than the violent killing of a baby. None so blind as those who will not see, goes the adage.
Of course, there are also people who realize very well that a baby is a life in being, but honestly say that these lives are silent, have no votes, and are entitled to less legal and moral protection than the lives of grownups. If these pre-born lives are inconvenient, goes the reasoning of this group, then it is the right of the mother to kill her child. This is a brutal, but honest, approach.
And, of course, there are those who believe that the killing of about a million and a half babies per year is worthwhile if it saves a handful of women from being killed or maimed in illegal abortions. Never mind that every one of those babies is maimed and killed in an abortion, so that you really have a calculus in which the lives of about a hundred thousand babies are traded for the lives of one grown woman. But this quantum of people who see abortion as something other than gruesome, who believe it is justified for the convenience of adults and adolescents, and who will kill any number to save a tiny number, are in an interesting position: they cannot look at their handiwork or the handiwork they defend.
Across the country, they shrink from photos of the babies killed in abortions. Through their mighty political groups, the pro-abortionists compel TV stations to refuse advertisements showing partial birth and other abortion artifacts. They will not even allow viewers (or themselves, I suspect) to see what their policies have wrought. They are, at least to my mind, like the Germans who refused to think about what was happening at Dachau and then vomited when they saw - and never wanted to see again.
For the rest of us, who see abortion as the violent taking of innocent life, it is hard indeed to see our era as a Golden Age. How would we feel if a disease claimed a million and a half unborn lives every year? Would we think we were in a Golden Age? How would we feel if an enemy invader killed a million and a half of our unborn every year?
I know that there are intelligent people who disagree strongly with what I say here. I used to disagree strongly myself - before we had our own adopted son, before we saw what might have been sucked out and ground up in a "clinic" or "women's health centers" (most absurd terms for killing rooms for little girls and boys), before we learned what everyone now knows about just how alive a baby in the womb is. But I think any intelligent man or woman who thinks about just the possibility that abortion is murder will have a hard time stopping before the terminus of the notion that it is murder.
And for those who don't care to make the trip down that road, perhaps you can imagine the feelings of tens of millions of us who see clearly that abortion is a violent killing of the most innocent of humans. Perhaps you can see why some of us don't see this as "A Golden Age" - and why we won't see it that way as long as the killing goes on, no matter how high the market goes. Very cool Kathy Ireland quote. Along with the others, but she makes the good point that this is not really a religious issue, it is a scientific and human rights issue. Great compilation.

What wonderful quotes. I really believe that we are seeing the beginning of the end for abortion on demand. Don't get me wrong, it's still going to be a long, hard battle, but haven't we made some impressive headways in the last several years?

Actually, the Ben Stein quote is incorrect: "Since 1973, when the United States Supreme Court, with no precedent before it at all ..."; um, a Federal Court just months before the Roe fiat ruling made a clear and concise statement that a human life begins at conception, but that didn't fit with the prearranged outcome sought by certain subpreme judges so it was ignored. Ben would do well to look that Steinberg ruling up.
I'm shocked that the MSM happened to miss these! Well, not really given that Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, etc need their stage on which to bash America.
