Numerous media press captured his moment of trite humility in confessing that he wasn't drafted by the A's:

"After being notified of the situation and after researching the matter ... I came to the conclusion that I was not drafted by the A's," he said.

Now, Bill Richard was a young man back then where his father probably had to deal with these things. This revelation came from an Op-Ed page of the Albuquerque Journal newspaper (December 21, 2005 page A13 - "I Tried To Draft Richardson and His Fast Ball"). A former scout wrote to a "Letters to the Editor" that Bill Richardson was indeed a favorite pitcher prospect by professional baseball scouters. The letter reads:

They're covering for him. He said he was drafted. It's such a minor thing. No reasonable person could hold it against him, but Democrats just cannot be wrong.

didn't realize it would say that and link to my blog, just that the source came from the Albuquerque Journal newspaper and there is no reference of it online. Just gotta buy the newspaper to see it. Wasn't my intention to mislead.

I just found out that the Yankee's didn't contact me to coach Jeter on how to play short.

I could have sworn they did but I guess it's just a simple misunderstanding between those involved.

After much hubaloo...

What the heck's a "hubaloo"?

Now I have heard of a hullabaloo.

hul·la·ba·loo also hul·la·bal·loo ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hl-b-l) n. pl. hul·la·ba·loos Great noise or excitement; uproar. See Synonyms at noise.

I don't know about the late 1960's, but nowadays the baseball draft goes 50 rounds deep. It's hard to imagine that a "favorite prospect" would get skipped over that many times.

Also, if I thought a team drafted me, I would surely contact the team -- even if I had no intention of ever turning pro.
