from 'The Dead Pelican':
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX THANKS, BUT NO THANKS XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Other "vicious rumors" include stories of the state turning away help to aid in the Katrina catastrophe. Well, there's good reason to believe that they're more than just rumors. Officers from other states who have volunteered to help are being turned away, Rogers has learned. A caller to the Moon Griffon show this morning, who wouldn't reveal his name, said that he'd come from out-of-state to help with security in the New Orleans area. Governor Blanco has not deputized them, and she will not deputize them, the man said. Political dispute between the Bush and Blanco administrations are said to be at the heart of it, Rogers is told.

There is also a "turf war" taking place between the Blanco administration, and the federal goverment. The Associated Press reported that "Blanco has refused to sign over control of the National Guard to the federal government and has turned to a Clinton administration official, former Federal Emergency Management Agency chief James Lee Witt, to help run relief efforts."

Just when you think Bush-haters can't go any lower (or cause more deaths [Cindy Sheehan]), this one appears. This episode of the Left's hatred for Bush cost 10,000 lives...so far.

Complete investigation is called for. I think Blanco has declared herself dictator. The Constitution guarantees every Louisiana citizen a republican form of government.

The "probe" into this disaster should prove interesting unless the Pres. appoints nagin, blanco and landrieu to write the final outcomes. I can just hear them saying to other dem cohorts now"Shhh, we don't need no stinkin' investigations. The feds will find out how corrupt we really have been over the levee financing thing."

If the blame comes back to Blank-O, her political career is finished, and she knows it. She will pursue any and all gutter tactics to see that the blame goes to Bush. And, of course, the public relations wing of the Democratic Party, the mainstream media, will be glad to help her if that will hurt Republicans.

On Fox News Gov Blanco not going along with the "forced evacuation" order of the Mayor. Says she needs to test the water first.

..."Blanco has refused to sign over control of the National Guard to the federal government ...

This doesn't sound right to me.

I've got a recollection that in the early days of the "Civil Rights Era" (1956, Little Rock specifically) the governor of Arkansas called out the National Guard to prevent a black student from entering a school, and President Eisenhower nationalized the Guard (obviously, against the governor's will) to prevent the Guard from carrying out the Gov's order.

Have the rules of Chain of Command on the Guard changed?

Only a complete idiot would even try to let the Mayor off the hook. Oh, that right, she has James L. Witt advising her.

I don't know about you, but it makes me wonder what in the world she's trying to keep everyone from finding out.

"...and has turned to a Clinton administration official, former Federal Emergency Management Agency chief James Lee Witt, to help run relief efforts."

Suddenly I understand why the fedguv is giving aid money directly to the affected people in the form of debit cards.

A caller to Boortz today said his son-in law is only making $20/day as a LA. National Guard Sgt. during the call-up because of this.

Eisenhaur was able to do that because it went against a Supreme Court ruling thus he was able to use the Insurrection Act.

I hate to admit this, but I was listening to Err Amerika this morning just to hear what the left was saying. They had on a couple of college newspaper reporters that claimed to help evacuate a couple of families from the NO area. They tried to spin it like the bush administration can't evacuate people, but we did. When they did this evacuation, authorities tried to stop them from leaving the area and they ahd to show press ID to get out. Again, tring to spin it as Bush harrasment. It was not mentioned who tried to stop them, but it fits with this thread. Blanco may be trying to keep people in - in order to prevent stories from getting out, just like she is keeping people from outside LA from getting in. She is quarantining the state for her own political purposes.

I don't get the impression that she's trying to hide anything as much as she's a big time control freak who hates everything coservative/Republican.

It's amazing to say the least.
