A Veterans Day bump, thank you, and reminder, for all my friends on FR who have supported our troops on our project or others I've been involved with in the past.

1009 troops and counting have been sent a Hobbit Hole knife, a small but useful token of our appreciation for their service. Please continue to support our troops in any way you can. We would appreciate and use your donation to send more knives and tools to the troops, but there are many ways to serve them. Their fight goes on every day, even the days we don't remember.

FrodoPlease support our Hobbit Hole Pocket knives for the troops project.

Our personal support does make a difference and it is vital that we continue to help our soldiers in any way possible.

Because of the Hobbit Hole knife project, I was introduced to a wonderful Army Captain, currently serving in Iraq. I purchased two knives and sent them to him, and he distributed them to two of his soldiers who could use them the most.

This is a portion of an e-mail that I received from him today:

Will try to remember the CD I burned with all the group pictures tomorrow. This place has aged me. It is a good thing I have less than 24 days!! Thank you for all your support! You have really help time go by quickly. Your friendship, thoughts and just banter were certainly something to look forward to and continue to look forward to. Just wanted to say thank you. I will write you tomorrow.

Sometimes it is the little things that count the most. Without the Hobbit Hole's inspiration, I would not have gotten off my butt and contacted a soldier in Iraq.

I can not thank you enough for what you have done for both of us.

Great! Thank you so much! I hope, when you get them, you are allowed to share some of the pictures with us!

Pinging again to show you the pictures Hunble has received from the troops he adopted and sent two Gerber LMF II aircrew knives to. He credits us as the inspiration for his decision to get involved, and we consider him to be a part of our effort.

He sent his knives to a Captain currently serving in Iraq, who then chose who in his group would receive the knives.

In the picture below, the SGT on the second row, far left received a knife, on the day he became a US citizen! The second knife went to the SGT in the center front of the photo, who as Hunble described, "is responsible for the majority of the convoy operations and was judged to be the most likely to be present if attacked with an IED. If anyone could save a life with a rescue knife, it would be him."

Man... it's really flat and desolate there.

And we complain of crowded uncomfortable quarters when we fly...

On this Veterans Day, I thank the Captain and the entire group for your service and sacrifice. I pray for your safety, and for your mission. Thank you for sharing your pictures with us, I consider it a great privilege to have the chance to thank you.

I've just added major amounts of new gadgets and tools to our Hobbit Hole troop site, freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net (I wish I could figure out how to make the HTML work right).

These goodies range from inexpensive to pricey, but they're all high-tech, and quite useful for combat troops. I bought one of each item to evaluate. The first Soldier or Marine who asks for the item gets it.

These goodies might also start your thought processes going on your own ideas for something other than hard candy and/or socks as gifts. It's almost too late to guarantee delivery for Christmas, but you can make any day Christmas with the right gift to a Marine or Soldier.

I meant in the post above. I could not make a good, live link to our site.

The software ecurbh is using for the Hobbit Hole site is pretty good, and I've figured out most of it for myself.

Evidently someone sent out an email advertising our program, and we have received an influx of requests as a result. And so, as you may get tired of hearing from me, the financial needs go on.
Hi, I stumbled upon your website and I thought I would thank you both for your part in aiding the American military as well as in advance if you should find it in you to extend your offer to me. I am a Marine serving with Second Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune and have deployed all over the world to include recent attractive locations as Globocicia, Kosovo, Kabul, Afghanistan and twice to Fallujah, Iraq. I am currently working up to deploy back to the gulf region in the continuing war on terror. I will tell you, little matters more to us Marines while deployed than to know that the people back here are safe and we only hope to do our little part over there to give those who desire it, a little taste of the freedoms we share, and often take for granted back here in the United States.

Again, thank you for your continued patriotism.

[300winmag], it was great to meet you at the Michigan Military Moms meeting. Having served in Vietnam for 13 months, I know the value of a good combat knife. I don't think i would have made it home without my K-bar. Our son Mike is in boot camp at Parris Island SC. He is about half way through. Mike is a young 18 year old. Mike's sister was stationed at the Pentagon when it was attacked on 9/11. Mike vowed that some day he would go after and kill the people that tried to kill his sister. Mike is making good on his promise. Mike requested infantry as his MOS. He plans to request Iraq or Afghanistan. He will need a good combat knife at his side.
I have also been in contact with another troop support project, called The Gator Project - providing a little comfort to our soldiers serving in Iraq, and we have agreed to trade links. If any of you are planning on sending a care package, this is a great idea for something useful to include.

FrodoPlease support our Hobbit Hole Pocket knives for the troops project.

Very cool letters, thanks :~D

The matter of the email that circulated was a little scary, because LOTS of requests have come in because of it!

Thank You!

We appreciate the help of all who have contributed to this project!
Thanks especially today for a very ~generous~ donation
from our HHD in Iowa.

TalonDJ I am hoping that your donation will inspire all of us
to give more and give again!
Thanks also to Corin, Ruthy, Ramius, Tunehead54,
and one father of a knife recipient who have donated recently.
(And my apologies if I have forgotten to mention someone!)
The more we give, the more knives we can send.
(And the longer we can keep winmag out of the poorhouse
cuz we know he'll keep buyin' knives anyway!)
300Winmag, Thank you for your tireless dedication!
